The Litter Cats Love

Dr. Elsey’s believes litter can be loved—by cats and their owners. They’re on a mission to help keep cats in loving homes by providing proven, veterinarian-formulated solutions.

They Speak for Cats

Dr. Elsey’s puts heart, soul, and science into every product to solve the complex needs of pets. Every problem calls for a solution, whether it’s bringing a fussy cat back to the box, keeping paws free of dust, or fueling pets’ ancestral dietary needs.

Bring Your Cat Back to the Box

A problem cat is one who chooses not to use the litter box. There are three likely causes: medical ailments, territorial marking, or behavioral issues. Cat Attract helps fight litter box aversion and bring cats back with a natural herb blend.

I love this litter, but the bag is unwieldy. It needs a built-in carry handle

I have noticed since I have been using this litter, it always comes with a small box in the litter that includes coupons, however, the coupons are always expired.

The litter is Unsencted but is it dust free

Answer by ChewyJul 23, 2018
This is a 99.9% dust free, hypo-allergenic natural litter.

Can this liter be used with an self cleaning cat box?

Answer by ChewyApr 07, 2018
Some self-cleaning litter boxes are made for use with a high quality clumping litter, such as this. It is recommended to check the manual to determine if this litter would be suitable for your specific litter box.

This stuff is the worst! Do NOT buy!

I got this litter for my cat's new self-cleaning litter box, in the hopes that it would help with tracking litter. First of all, it was really difficult to pour the litter out of the bag and into the litter box... there needs to be some type of handle. Second, the really bad part was the smell. I went away for a few days and when I came back, I was shocked at how bad it smelled. I felt like I was standing inside of a fetid porta-potty at a music festival that hadn't been emptied for a week. I felt so sorry for my kitty that she had to smell that while she was using the bathroom. Considering that this was a self-cleaning litter box, it was not a matter of the litter sitting around for awhile and not having been scooped. I promptly ordered the old Arm & Hammer litter that I had used previously, and the minute it arrived I threw out the Dr. Elsey's. I couldn't even think of donating the litter to a charity, because it smelled so god-awful. Nobody should have to endure that... I figured we can use it under the car tires in case we get stuck in bad weather. Now that we are back to Arm & Hammer, the smell has totally disappeared.

This litter is awful. I gave two stars instead of one because it does what it says and "clumps". However, urine+this litter turns sticks to the bottom of the litter box so hard I have to use significant force. I'm thankful I'm using both a stainless steel scoop and a stainless steel litter box because I fear I would crack or snap plastic ones with how hard this litter gets. Also, I probably need to wear safety glasses now when scooping the litter box because it feels inevitable with the amount of force required that I will eventually also shoot myself in the face with feces and urine-filled litter one of these days. The clumps are more the consistency of really sticky wet clay than the hard clumps of most litter so small pieces also glop off and go through the sieve of the scoop. Overall this litter makes the already unpleasant task of scooping a little box much worse.

We’ve been using Dr. Elsey’s Unscented Litter in our home and cattery, and it has been an excellent choice especially for kittens and multi cat households. The unscented formula is a huge plus. There’s no artificial fragrance to irritate sensitive noses, and it allows you to actually monitor litter box habits without odors being masked. It clumps well, making daily cleaning easy, and helps keep boxes noticeably cleaner with less waste. Dust control has also been impressive. With kittens and adult cats using the boxes frequently, minimizing dust is important for respiratory health, and this litter performs very well in that area. Overall, this has been a reliable, consistent litter that supports a clean, low-stress environment for cats of all ages. It’s become a staple for us, and we feel confident recommending it to families bringing home a new kitten. For anyone curious about how we raise and prepare our kittens before they go home, you can learn more about our program at Coontasticpaws.com

This brand of litter is the one my sister uses for her 2 cats, so I got some for my newly-adopted kitten. It works well, and most product reviews have been positive. The biggest negative is the HEAVY weight of the relatively small bag. This clay litter might as well be made of lead pellets; the bag is almost too heavy to lift. I’m seriously considering changing to another brand, because of the unmanageable weight and packaging.

Truly unscented and good price, but doesn’t clump well

I like this litter for the price point and that it truly has no scent to it, but it does not clump well or make it easy to scoop pee. Bummer, because the only litter I’ve found that clumps best (arm and hammer slide) has an odor to it that my nose hates. Sometimes I mix the two to take the edge off but this litter really makes pee puddles a sludge-like mess

I thought that was dumb, like how’d they survey the cats? But after years of using Dr Elseys upstairs and my old favorite kind downstairs I’m noticing they prefer this one. Even if we’re all hanging out downstairs they make a trip up to use Dr Elsie’s. So now I’m going to only use this. Also there’s very little ammonia smell when scooping it.

I'm always looking for a good deal with 17 cats to caretake for. Dr. Elsey's has never let me down in all the years I have been using them. And, ALL the cats are willing to use it. Easy clean up and extremely good at trapping smells. Best part is that they have also maintained their low price across several years while others have raised theirs to stupid levels. This company actually cares about giving all of us a chance to care for cats.

I have bought this litter twice in different occasions and it’s not my favorite. I have two cats (a female and male, one shared litter box) 1 full bag lasts me about 3 weeks before it starts to smell, with a good amount still in the bin. Approximately, maybe 1-2 weeks left of usage. The smell is outrageous. The litter itself doesn’t hold the smell and more like airs it out to the rest of my home. Side note: it does clump great. It does last 3 weeks in a multi-cat home before starting fresh again, Which is better than other brands in my trials. But again, not my favorite.

This is absolutely not low dust (although I have been having a hard time finding some that is). Huge clouds of dust as I run the scoop through. It’s miserable for me so I’m not surprised my asthmatic cat doesn’t like it. Still have one bag unopened. Don’t buy if you are doing so because of the low dust claim, especially if you have a cat with breathing problems.

Switched Litter for the first time

Overall, I'm pleased with Dr. Elsey's Ultra Unscented Clumping Clay Litter. I switched from Scoop Away because litter was forming clumps in my senior cat's toes

Overall, I'm pleased with Dr. Elsey's Ultra Unscented Clumping Clay Litter. I switched from Scoop Away because litter was forming clumps in my senior cat's toes as she's not grooming herself well. I tried Dr. Elsey's based upon my vet's recommendation- I really wanted the Senior formulation but was unable to find it- and so far, it has worked well. I still monitor my cat's paws, but I have noticed less clumping between her toes. The bag is heavy and awkward to pour from. It would be nice if boxes were available.
