I switched.y dogs from natural balance limited ingredient salmon to Dr Pol and big mistake, while my lil fussy guy thoroughly enjoyed it his body didn't, he developed terrible problems with his bottom, trouble pooping and he's extremely irritated and runny, going to the vet today to see what the problem is, then my Lab, that will eat ANYTHING and I mean anything, refused to eat for 3 days, as I was about to call to bring her in for a check up I decided to try a handful of her old food and she inhaled it. Turns out she hated this new food, thankfully Chewy being the great company they are they refunded me completely and both my dogs are back on their old food!
We have have a American Pocket Bully that has suffered from allergies, and this has been the only diet and brand that has helped! We have tried many brands even specifically the salmon and sweet potatoe diet and never had any luck. Dr Pol advises that this product does not contain yeast and I truly believe that is the key. Louies' skin is cleared put from the break outs and has a nice smooth shine. The only thing I could critique is the protein. Since he is a bully he burns alot of calories and the food does not provide the weight I would like to see so we do add a supplement to his diet. But still can not say how much it has helped him!
I have buying between blue buffalo dog to taste of wild and have to mix wet food in with the dry food for my boy Harley to eat so omg when i got dr.pols salmon recipe threw the mail today Harley ate the all up like it was no ones business without wet food mixed with the dry highly recommend or people to buy and try for their dogs i read the ingredients and when it says no soy no wheat no animal meal by product there is absolutely none of that in dr.pols food gmo either so try it dr.pol has food for cats to
My dogs smelled like freetos and the entire house was beginning to stink like dirty dog, even tight after a bath. They scratched constantly. Both had flaking near thier tail and reoccurring ear infections. Our vet told us this all these symptoms were due to allergy and said to watch out for eggs, pork, chicken, wheat, fish and yep, even rice! NOTE, not all dogs are allergic to these but dogs with allergies are usually allergic to one or more of these. We were already on a grain free food but we thought we'd try Dr Pols food, knowing he's such a great Dr and cares so much about animals. Although the vet mentioned fish as a possible allergen we chose Dr Pols food and hoped for the best. Our dogs had no reaction to the salmon formula of Dr Pols food. After only a few days the smelly dogs were cured!!!!! After only 8 weeks thier coats have become shinny, soft and healthy looking!!! I'm honestly shocked! It's rare to find ANY products of this quality at this price. I can't say enough about this find!!! My only complaint is that it seems to only come in the one flavor, Salmon. Although I don't change our dogs food often, it would be nice to be able to change flavors it without having to change brands!
Our dog food was recalled so I had to find something comparable. Dr Pol is highly respected veterinarian and I trust if he put his name and picture on the food it has to be healthy
We’ve had our pup on this for a few years now, and she absolutely LOVES it! We used to feed her Blue Wilderness Salmon before she got really loose stool (we reached out to BW and they claimed they didn’t change anything), and she would refuse to eat until she got really hungry which we thought was due to her getting used to the environment. NOPE! As soon as we saw this and progressively switched her onto DR. Pol’s Salmon, she gobbled it up like nobody’s business! We’ve never had a problem after each new bag unlike Blue Wilderness. Yes, it smells bad but it’s salmon. We have it in an air right container to preserve it and contain the scent, and only smell it when we feed her, clean it out (it’s super nasty) before each new bag, or she licks us but it comes with the territory with kibble. In addition, her coat is super soft and shiny! I wish it didn’t stain her teeth or be so potent on her breath as much, but we’re getting on top of that. Once again, it’s Salmon. It’s doesn’t break the bank, and since she’s an Aussie; they’re grain intolerant which I’m thankful we found her favorite kibble (to date).
Giving a 4 star because the ingredients are excellent but my dog may be allergic to something in it for he’s been itchy and red bumps all over his belly and bright pink rings around his eyes. This is the only new thing I’ve introduced into his diet and I also gave him a couple baths with hypoallergenic ingredients for itching and it still hasn’t resolved. It seems to flare the worst approximately 1/2 hr after he eats in the morning and subsides 6 hours later and flares again 1/2 after his evening meal. I’m going to continue another week with the food hoping it’s not the problem but unfortunately I think it is. Feeling bummed because as I said the ingredients are excellent.
First time giving Dr Pol’s food to my dog Gracie, she loves it! She needed grain free food to eliminate skin allergies and good gut health, I’ve noticed a difference after two weeks.
My two dogs enjoy their kibble! They have lovely coats and are very healthy.
Very good ingredients. I used to feed my dogs Taste of the WIld (various flavors) and noticed loose stools, (did they change the formula?) switched to Dr. Pol's and saw a big improvement. Fairly priced, would highly recommend. Does not overly smell, and dog smells fine.
