What happens if you test a mix breed with this test?

Answer by ChewyAug 05, 2022
Genetic ancestry and purebred status are two different, completely separate things. Purebred status is defined by pedigrees at registration bodies. Ancestry looks at segments of shared DNA. A purebred dog can sometimes share DNA with another breed. If this happens, you’ll see “Mixed Ancestry” in your dog’s DNA results. Sometimes, DNA testing can reveal that a dog that seems mixed breed is actually 100% of a single breed. “Single breed” is a DNA result, which is different from “purebred” status. Purebred status is determined by pedigree and registration bodies, not Embark.

Does this include age estimate?

Answer by ChewyFeb 17, 2023
This test does not provide insight on your dog's age.

Will this test specify my dog’s genetic color for accuracy to register him?

Answer by ChewyFeb 07, 2023
The Embark DNA Test for Purebred Dogs will tell you about your dog’s breed and ancestry. It also screens for 230+ genetic health risks, measures genetic diversity, and connects you with your dog’s relatives. It will test the color of your dog's coat.

Are Copper Storage markers included? 7A and 7B?

Answer by ChewyAug 16, 2025

I'm going to give this product one star but zero would be better. The results are totally not believable and don't match my dog at all. The results came a week after they said they would and the output was comical. When I questioned them, I got a lot of total double talk. I've had better luck with wisdompanel.

Chewy is the very best company.

This kit is easy to obtain your fur baby's genetics. We sent ours off a week ago, and the company tracks this sample and let's you know what's happening every step

I was quite disappointed in the breed and health results from Enbark. They left over 18% unidentified. I got another DNA kit from another company recommended by the rescue (after I shared the Enbark results with them) where I adopted my dog, Freya, and it came back with all DNA matched; none left out. It also told me about her parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. And beyond that, it gave many of her relatives. I was concerned about any health issues she might have, and Enbark came back with two possible issues which required very expensive blood tests to find out for certain if they were something to be watched. I did the tests because I want to give her the best possible care I can. When I got the health results from the second and recommended DNA kit, there were no health issues found. And in the meantime my vet informed me the results of the blood tests were both negative. To be fair, Enbark had not said she had these two issues, only that she had the marker for.both of them. The second DNA test (the recommended one) said that she had no markers for any health issues. I would never recommend Enbark to anyone.
