Opossums are one of the world's most variably sized mammals, therefore feeding recommendations vary. Offer Opossum Complete daily as a staple diet to weaned opossum eating solid food (3 to 5 months or older). Supplement the diet with high-calcium vegetables (leafy greens, squash, sweet potato) and occasional protein sources such as insects, fish (with bones), eggs (with shell), or chicken. Adjust the amount fed to ensure optimum body weight. Opossums have a large appetite and a slow metabolism. If feeding free choice, carefully monitor their food intake while encouraging activity. If treating MBD, supplement the diet with Exotic Nutrition's Liquid Calcium Supplement.

About two weeks ago a young opossum came to shelter in our barn. We gave it pieces of apple and I researched the opossum's diet with the aim of supporting it through the winter so that it can go off and be a wild animal again in the spring. To my great surprise on the list was the ever reliable Chewy! So now Beadle is happily eating Complete Opossum Food topped with some fresh apple or pear and sleeping in a bag of hay.
