My 17 year old cat was diagnosed with CKD about a year and a half ago. She had lost a lot of weight, weighing nearly 6.5lbs. I had her on another brand of food for a while and she slipped into stage 2. She wasn’t really interested in that food and she wasn’t gaining weight. I decided to try the Farmina renal formula because I’ve fed my other animals Farmina in the past and they have always loved it. And let me say, the difference I’ve seen with my cat has been amazing. Her lab work has stayed consistent and haven’t gone down since switching to this food. And she has even gained 1.5lbs! As soon as I opened the bag and put some into her food bowl, she immediately ran over and started eating it. I’m so happy I switched over to this food! My cat is genuinely thriving on it!

I was actually shocked my cat preferred the RX formula over their regular food. I was mixing them bc I was sure she would need at least some of the regular formula mixed in since renal foods can often be bland, but she LOVES this food. She eats the wet and dry and truly laps it up. Her renal values have improved and she has even gained a 1lb recently. [excellent for a 15.5yo w KD]

Non-GMO and high quality ingredients

All three of my CRF senior cats loved this food and preferred it to the other prescription dry cat foods. I liked that the ingredients are all non-GMO as there is emerging research that shows that genetically modified foods (especially grains) may inflame the kidneys and GI tract. The ingredients appear to be clean and my cats did very well on this food. They also loved Blue Buffalo renal diet dry food (and I loved the non-GMO natural formula) but it’s designed more for cats in the early stage of CRF. All three of my cats were stage 3 when diagnosed (2 of them were treated for hyperthyroidism which masked the CRF). All three are now stable and their levels have dropped back into the normal range with daily subcutaneous fluids and a renal nutritionally supplement (Pet RX Feline Renal) that they take twice a day by capsule. Even though their bloodwork is great, the underlying kidney damage is still there so it’s important to continue to treat them as kidney patients. Recently their dry food has been switched to a hydrolyzed diet by Royal Canin as my 17 year old cat also has IBD or small cell lymphoma. The other two are feed a low phosphorus senior can food separately. Interestingly, the hydrolyzed protein diet seems to be gentle on the kidneys (less nitrogenous waste to process?). It’s difficult when you have a multi cat household and one cat needs a special diet. It’s often easier to put everyone on the same food. In the future, Vet Life would be my first choice for dry or canned cat food.

I bought this prescription renal dry food for my cat who has CKD and was having diarrhea from other brands. The first bag I bought on 7/15/25 my cat loved it and she wasn't having any loose stools! It was great! I then bought another bag two months later on 9/13/25 and the dry food looks different (slightly lighter color, bigger pieces) and now my cat won't eat it. They must've changed the formula. This is extremely disappointing as most people with CKD cats know how hard it is to get them to eat prescription kidney food. My cat doesn't like this new formula. I wish they would go back to the way it used to be!

Unfortunately my cat didn’t like the taste

My cat is fussy, so unfortunately, this is one more product that she has rejected to help support her kidney disease.
