Says to only use for a few weeks? is this not a long term urinary care dog food?

Answer by ChewyMar 12, 2025
This food is recommended only for direct treatment of struvite stones. It contains specific formulations such as lower protein levels and fiber to alleviate stone and calculi accumulation. As such, this food should not be fed full-time and is only recommended for a maximum usage of 5-12 weeks.

Good dog food for ST control

My pet doesn't really like the taste of this food, even though he will eat it when he's hungry enough. I hope that he will begin to like it more as he needs to

Thank you, Farmina. You saved my French Bulldog.

My sweet girl had urinary crystals and her old vet insisted she be on a h*lls. It was awful. She would lick her paws nonstop. Every. Single. Day. I know French Bulldogs

My sweet girl had urinary crystals and her old vet insisted she be on a h*lls. It was awful. She would lick her paws nonstop. Every. Single. Day. I know French Bulldogs are prone to allergies and her vet just told us it was that. I pushed for a farmina prescription and all of her “allergies” DISAPPEARED. This dog food brand is costly for a reason. They care about what ingredients go in your dogs food and Europe has higher standards. I love you, Farmina. Thank you for changing my french bulldogs life. No more crystals. No more itchy paws. No more flare ups. Get your dogs on this kibble - it’s life changing. We love you so much Farmina!!! <3

My toy poodle actually likes this. :D

My toy poodle was previously eating the farmina chicken and pomegranate which she loves. She tends to be finicky at times and when she had to change to a prescription

My toy poodle was previously eating the farmina chicken and pomegranate which she loves. She tends to be finicky at times and when she had to change to a prescription urinary diet the vet gave her Roy Canin SO. Al, she refused to eat that and I switched to this. Looking at the ingredients, this is a more nutritionally sound formula in my dog. Actually likes it. Yesterday she had her urine tested for struvite crystals and she has dissolved all of the crystals. So the food works and my dog likes it. That's a win for me!

Didn’t work for my dog

Unfortunately, this food didn’t work for my dog. We purchased this as a second effort at dissolving struvite crystals in her urine, but after a few days of eating

Unfortunately, this food didn’t work for my dog. We purchased this as a second effort at dissolving struvite crystals in her urine, but after a few days of eating the food she had bloody stools and completely refused to eat any of the food. She would still eat other brands of food with some coaxing, but would not let this food anywhere near her. We cut this food out of her diet and went back to the original food and she was much better after that. We had planned on switching her to Farmina brand foods after her treatment because we’ve heard good things from other Lab families, but this experience deterred us from that so we’re trying out other options now.

Surprise - my picky Shih Tzu likes "Italian food!"

We found out he had crystals in his urine and got a prescription. We tried another brand before and my Shih Tzu didn't like it - he's verrrry picky. But he's gobbling

We found out he had crystals in his urine and got a prescription. We tried another brand before and my Shih Tzu didn't like it - he's verrrry picky. But he's gobbling down the Farmina Vet Life the minute he sees it. We top it with a small amount of a liver supplement, but in general, he really favors this brand!

Price(High)

Not Chewy’s fault your pricing is competitive. Jury is out if it will help Bella’s PP?
