If you find mats, use the Magic Coat® Instant Mat & Tangle Remover to eliminate them. For a long-coated breed, you are going to have to take a bit more time. In a worst-case scenario, use scissors. Isolate the mat and slide one blade through the bottom of the mat and cut upward in a vertical motion (not horizontal to the skin). Then brush out the remainder of the mat. Removing a mat from a dog’s skin is an uncomfortable experience for him even in the best of circumstances. Speak gently to him and offer him treat rewards for remaining calm. If your dog’s hair has matted right down to the skin, you may have to see a professional groomer to have the coat shaved. Because a dog’s skin is thin and tears easily, this is not something most people should attempt on their own.
This is the most wonderful comb I've ever come across. I have 4 medium/long hair cats, and one is especially prone to getting knots in his fur. Brushing them out was an absolute nightmare for all parties involved and was very time consuming. This comb literally rakes through the knots in one quick and easy sweep without hurting the cats.
I have a pom that gets tangles on her hind legs. This worked super well to get the little mats out that she won’t let me touch with a regular brush. Reading some of the bad reviews I think it might work better on some types of hair than others. We had great success, you still have to be gentle though, so don’t expect to just rake the tangles out.
We have a fluffy Maine Coon and Norwegian Forest cat. We try to keep certain areas so they don't get tangled, but seems like they still get mats and tangles. I believe we have tried every kind of comb, trimmer, and pet scissors that were ever made - some of which caused pain, some were too complicated to use on a squirmy cat and some just didn't work. This handy tool however, works great! Woohoo! Thanks to the genius that created it and thanks to Chewy for the cheap price. Our fur babies thank you too!
I have always had long hair cats. I got my first pure bred, a Norwegian Forest Cat, which in addition to long hair, also has a double coat. I used to just cut out mats that weren't handled by a regular brush. Doesn't work on this cat. At times, it seems like I am pulling fairly hard on the comb but my cat doesn't seem to mind. Frequently, the mat comes out on the first pass. I am ordering an extra in case I lose the one I have. This is the only thing that works. I have tried, literally, dozens of combs, brushes, and inventions. Not one of them worked for this cat.
This rake/comb did nothing but pull at my dog's long fur. It looks like a torture device with the sharp ended rake. I dont understand the good reviews.
This is perfect for my long haired cat that seems to create knots under his chin s he sleeps. It's gental and efficient.
Saw this comb in a video on cat grooming. I have a beautiful Persian cat who needs daily combing and this does the trick!
This is the Best grooming tool I ever had. My cat does not like to be brushed at all but will tolerate this one. I recently lost the first one I had and was thrilled that Chewy still this product in stock. Can't do without it.
I have 2 Akita's. One long coat and one normal. My long coat gets mats behind her ears which is why I purchased this brush. My Akita's blow coat twice a year and usually last about a month and takes lots of brushing. This brush by far the best brush I have ever used. My normal coat Akita loves to be brushed and After brushing him with this brush 2 days in a row all of his undercoat that he started blowing is gone! It gets all the loose hair out so easily! My long coat is taking a little longer due to her not liking me brushing her and the amount of hair she has but it got the mats out very quickly and she is looking much better!
My Peekaboo does NOT like to have her Hind quarters combed. Medium - long haired Rag Doll. She actually tolerates this for a few seconds. No more butt dreads ; )
