Will this detangler work with the brushes to remove mats from long-haired kitties?
Answer by ChewyMay 18, 2019
This product helps to detangle fur during brushing while adding softness and shine to your cat’s coat. It's ideal for both long and short-haired cats.

So it's okay if my 18 year old barn kitty decides to lick this off her coat? Also how much do you put on, like just a light coating on outer surface of hair or do you coat enough to get skin a little wet to get the few little matts of hair loosened up to brush out? Thanks
Answer by ChewyMay 15, 2019
This spray should be used as needed to help detangle your cat's fur, and it is made with natural and safe ingredients.

Is this product cruelty free?

AMAZING RESULTS

I don't normally write reviews but this stuff worked amazing. We have 2 Maine Coon/Persian mix cats. Mattes are a huge problem. We do not use this like the instructions say "to spray on and comb through" our cats would never allow that. What we did with a 3 inch, tight to the skin hair mat was to saturate the mat, then GENTLY massage it for a few seconds...working it gently away from the skin. Then leave it...we didn't do anything else. Then the next day the mat was half the size...I have no idea HOW, but we did the same thing again, saturated it, massaged away from the skin for 2 or 3 seconds (until our cat said ENOUGH). By day three there was a tiny little mat and we just snipped it off because it was no longer up next to the skin. We brush them out daily, but they still get the occasional mat because they are 12 yrs old and lay around a lot. We have used this method with 2 substancial mats and had the same result both times. I'm in love with this product.

The jury is still out

Not sure yet. Used it once on Max's medium length fur which the spot was really matted. Really didn't loosen it up. I ended up having to cut it. So I really can't say either way if I like it or not.

Detangler + other interventions = no more mats

My elderly long-haired cat’s grooming skills went downhill thanks to arthritis and he developed a bunch of mats. We started him on arthritis meds and I've been using the spray and a Furminator to very gently, very slow working through the mats (the Furminator is GREAT for long-haired cats’ undercoats). Since getting out the worst of them he's been doing more grooming, and he will even follow up a spray/brush session with his own grooming in areas I just worked on. I like that the spray doesn't smell strong and hasn't upset his digestive system. To apply it, I spray 3-4 squirts of the detangler into my hands, then wipe it over his coat. I rub extra detangler into areas with more mats as needed, and sometimes repeat this for a day or two before tackling those mats. I also hold a stick of Churu for him to lick while I brush him (cannot recommend Churu enough!), which has him DEMANDING brush sessions at this point. I haven't seen any new mats appear since using the detangler on a regular basis, and I think it made the existing mats easier to brush out. His coat has been less greasy overall, either because the spray reduces greasiness, he lets me brush him more regularly, and/or he is inspired to groom himself more often. It doesn't fully replace self-grooming or the need to brush (not that I expected it to). Despite regular brushing, he still produces a lot of dandruff and the spray hasn’t fully removed the greasiness in his top coat along the parts of his spine he can’t reach. Then again, this is a detangler, not a shampoo or dandruff-reducer, and I got it specifically to help with the mats, which it has done.

Pet MasterMind Fab Fur Detangling cat spray

Nice product. My kitty will le me spray affected area, but, like normal, won't let me brush too long.

This stuff really works!

I must say I was a bit skeptical when I ordered Fab Fur. I’ve become resigned to a 20 minute wrestling match with my 18 lb. long hair, Oliver, when it comes time to detangle the fur on his hindquarters. But with Fab Fur he doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he seems to be calmed by the ingredients and enjoys being brushed! Thanks Chewy, for introducing this great product for cat owners!

This product worked in unanticipated ways.

My cat's fur was tangled over her entire body. By using this product we were able to disentangle some of her knots and run a comb thru much of her fur. The surprise was that she stepped up her self grooming when I sprayed this solution and cleared up much of the problem on her own. Now she demands to be groomed at least once aa day!

Fab Fur Kitty Detangling Cat Spray

I would highly recommend this product! My senior kitty started getting a lot of hair "knots". This spray is helpful in removing the knots, has a very very mild scent, and is non-toxic. Just what I was looking for! Thank you!

De-matting

I was hoping that the detangling spray would work on matted fur...my cat has three layers of fine silky fur....she’s aging and starting to Matt due to sleeping a great deal. I was able to do the smaller areas by drenching with Fab Fur. I think that the product should be tried, as each cat has different types of fur.

No more tangles

My cat allows me to spray this directly on her thick long fur and brush her all over. Her coat is even more beautiful than before. She’s obsessed!

This fur detangling spray is working

My cat is a Ragdoll so he comes with long thick fluffy fur. I've only had this product a few days but I've used it on him several times a day to start softening the clumps. The fur tangles got ahead of me so it will take a while to work them out. Today I was able to untangle one of the smaller clumps. I'm having good luck with this product, but, I know I'll be working on these fur clumps for weeks. I do recommend Fab Fur Kitty Detangling Spray, just be patient, it will work in time. I expect I'll be ordering another bottle.
