About Fresh Step Cat Litter

A Cleaner Litter for a Better Smelling House

Fresh Step created a litter for every type of kitty imaginable, and they're all designed to handle the strongest litter box smells to keep your house odor-free. With tight-clumping scoopable options, low-maintenance crystals, great-smelling scented litter and even unscented for sensitive noses, your cat's litter box will stay fresh each time she steps in, and after she jumps out, too.

One Step Fresher

How do you get 10-day odor control that keeps fighting lingering litter box smells? Take the power of Fresh Step and add the pleasing scent of Febreeze, including the popular Aloha fragrance, for the next level of freshness. Both Fresh Step Multi-Cat and Extreme Scented Cat Litter are low-dust formulas that feature ClumpLock technology for tighter, easy-to-scoop clumps. Multi-Cat is perfect for more than one kitty, and Extreme uses antimicrobial agents to stop the growth of odor-causing bacteria.

Fragrance-Free Formula

Fresh Step Multiple Cat unscented cat litter works naturally to eliminate odors. It combines activated carbon and plant extracts for a scoopable clay litter that takes a more natural approach to litter box woes. Carbon works nonstop to trap the odors, while plant extracts quickly neutralize them—all without overpowering perfumes or dyes.

A Little Goes a Long Way

Fresh Step Clay Cat Litter requires less scooping time, and it's made to handle even the smelliest messes. Compared to other non-clumping clay litters, you'll need less to get the same odor-fighting benefits. Offensive odors are eliminated using CarbonPLUS technology to keep the litter fresher longer. Just 35 pounds equals 50 pounds of similar non-clumping clay litters, which means you get more use out of each bag.

Fresh Step Crystals Cat Litter

Crystals look nicer in the litter box, and they absorb moisture on contact—five times more efficiently than the leading clay litter. Fresh Step Crystals Cat Litter requires the least amount of daily upkeep, because you only need to scoop out solid waste, not huge clumps. It lasts up to a month and minimizes the amount of dust to almost nothing. The smooth crystals are soft on the paws and lightweight in the bag for easier carrying.

Is the crystals suppose to absorb the pee? Do I have to scoop out the pee also?
Answer by ChewyApr 22, 2018
The Fresh Step Crystals quickly absorb moisture including urine. It's a non-clumping litter so it's best to change the litter box in 20- 30 days.

the urine builds up at bottom of litter pan - is there something i can do to eliminate this as when changing it out the fumes are pretty intense.
Answer by ChewyMay 06, 2019
It is recommended to scoop the feces out at least daily and stir the litter to distribute the silica to absorb the urine. When you notice the crystals are unable to absorb any more, it is time to empty out the entire box, clean it, dry it, and add fresh litter.

Can I use this in my auto cleaning try
Answer by ChewyJul 14, 2017
While most self cleaning litter boxes can be used with crystal litter it is recommended to thoroughly read the manual for litter requirements.

My cat tracks litter all over my apartment, will this help cut down on that?
Answer by ChewyMay 07, 2018
This lightweight litter can help greatly reduce tracking around your apartment. The blue crystals won't stick to your cat's paws.

My cats don't like it at all.

I have 5 cats and 7 litter boxes. I'm always on a quest to find the least dusty litter. I put the Fresh Step Crystals in one litter box, and the clay litter in all of the other boxes. It's been there for almost a whole week, but no one will use it. One of my very sweet older cats tried it out and peed in it, but he never used it again. He acted like it hurt his paws. The others smelled it, and 2 of them put a paw in it, but that was it. The verdict was unanimous. No crystals.

Great for Fluffy Cats

I used clay litter for my short/medium-haired cat for 17 years and my new cat is long-haired. If you have a long-haired cat, I highly suggest this litter over clay litter because the clay gets caught in their fur and the crystals don’t. To avoid “litter butt” for long-haired cats, get this litter. For short/medium-haired cats, I think clay is just fine.

Crystals too large

My bengal wouldn't use it. She's never had any issues with any other litters, but she did not like this one. My guess is because the crystals were too large and it didn't feel like her prior clumping or non-clumping litters. I could tell she needed to use the box, but after seeing those crystals in there, she spent a while yelling how she didn't like it. I immediately had to go out to get another litter to avoid her going somewhere outside the box. I do like that this was dust-free since that was the main reason I bought it (prior litter caused massive dust plumes that did not go away for a while). I do think it could work for a less picky cat though

high tracking and dusty

I have 4 cats and this is the highest tracking litter I’ve ever used in my life. I find crystals all over my house several rooms away from the litter boxes. It’s also extremely dusty. Whenever I switch out the old crystals for fresh crystals there’s a literal dust cloud worse than any clay and clumping litter I’ve ever used. Sure it does last longer, but it’s ultimately more expensive and creates a bigger mess than it’s worth.

I love this litter and my cats do too

This litter is definitely more expensive, but much better than clay litter. It holds odor excellently and tracks minimally from the box. It does require more attention than clay litter, as it needs to be scooped and stirred almost daily for it to last as long as it can. The crystals can become over saturated and eventually stop absorbing urine as well if not stirred every day or two. It is not dust free, but has minimal dust after it’s been in the box a day or two. The dust content is much better than other crystal brands I’ve tried. Also, my cats never had a problem switching to this litter from clay. They immediately started using it. I also switched to a top entry litter box, which made the tracking issue even better!

Saved me and kept my kitties clean and happy!

I was about to run out of litter and the boxes were getting yucky and my older cat was eyeing the floor instead. Neither the big box store nor the supermarket had any 'good stuff' in stock like the crystals we prefer for several days and neither had our cat food in stock either but I had the inspiration to check on Chewy and find a solution to both dilemmas. Both products were sent so that they arrived overnight and truly saved the day here! We are now on auto-ship so we won't have to face this issue again. Thanks, Chewy!!

No Litter Box Smell!!!

This litter stayed fresh just shy of a month. But I made an extra effort to scoop daily and to stir the litter everyday. If you stir the litter after scooping everyday it does last about a month. Also I find it so much easier to scoop out the litter box, it takes less than half the time. There's no litter box smell, and it's light weight. But I would NOT recommend to use this litter with younger kittens. That's the one and only drawback I have found so far.

crystals are too big

The crystals are too big and good luck when you step on them. I bought these because I thought they would be less messier and smelly than the clay litter… I was way far off from this. They are worse than clay litter. It gets everywhere and when you step on them it feels like little shards of glass poking your feet

terrible and doesn't prevent odor at all

Our cats hated this litter. Not only did it not lock in odor, but it tracks so much worse than the clumping clay litter. I purchased this b/c the reviews were high. VERY WRONG! Will go back to clumping clay litter.

Great Litter

This is the best litter I have ever used. We’re a multi cat family and all of our cats use it with no problem. What litter doesn’t get outside the box occasionally but this litter is minimal. Plus THERE IS NO DUST!!
