I bought this scratching post because we have 2 cats and they both have torn up our living room furniture. Crazy as it is, having placed the scratching post right in the living room, neither cat will have anything to do with the post! It has been in our house over a month now. They don't seem afraid of the post, they just don't seem to know that THIS is what we want them to scratch! The product seems to be of good quality. Maybe in time they will use it. We think maybe the cats are too old and are just so used to scratching the furniture that they don't want to use the post. Nothing negative to say about the actual post itself, but I can't post this without clicking at least one star. While my cats won't use their post, I will give the product 3 stars as I don't really know how long it lasts or if it falls over. Seems to be pretty hard for me to flip it over. My cats experience may not be your cats experience.
What can I say. It's a scratching post. I don't know why they insist on making these things with a fluffy ball on a string attached; the ball is always the first thing the cats rip off. I was quite impressed with the way this tall post was packed into the box. No wasted space. Assembly was easy. Because it's tall and has a narrow base, it tends to fall over during scratching sessions so I just put one corner of the base under the edge of the couch and it doesn't tip over. Would buy again.
$15 ish is a good price for this scratcher. Easy to assemble and gray carpet looks nice. Toy ball with stretchy string got his attention and he started scratching right away. If you have a cat that prefers a vertical scratching area this will do the trick. Only issue is it does tip toward the cat if he’s not standing on the base. It might work better and tip less on hard flooring but I need it in a carpeted area. A slightly wider base than 12x12 would be an improvement on the design! Overall this does work where I needed it and worth the price.
My laid back kitty isn't big on toys, but after a couple of days he did figure out how to scratch and now uses it fairly frequently. He even likes to kneed and scratch the carpeted base. Still working on him playing with the little ball on top, but he does like to watch me flip it around. He almost knocked it over once, but so far it seems pretty stable.
I've been needing a new scratching post for a little while now and decided to try out this one. I was a little weirded out that the scratching post came in two parts but was excited to have a taller post for my cats. Was not impressed to find at the ends of each of the posts are staples to keep the sisal attached. I'm not risking my cats getting a nail caught on one and ripped out. Definitely returning asap.
This Sisal Cat Scratching Post is extremely unsafe! I was very close to bringing my cat to the emergency vet when she ingested some of the fibers that come off of this. It is made with twine roping and frays ALOT! I would trim it and vacuum the pieces but it is very unsafe! I would never purchase this or anything made with this twine type of roping!! Please consider this!
My kitten used it immediately after I set it up. It’s easy to assemble and the instruction is clear. But the smell is not good for me and make me a little worried to be harmful to the health. Maybe using it after a few days. A ok product with good price.
This scratcher is great; easy to put together, nice size, great price. But--my cat won't use it (yet, hopefully.) The problem is not with the scratcher, but with her. Time to rub catnip all over it.
My cats LOVE these scratchers. So much so that I had to buy another set to replace the ones I bought a few years ago because they scratched the sissal right off. My only complaint is that the little pieces of sissal come off and get everywhere. This is a minimal nuisance in comparison to how much all my cats love and use these scratchers. Perfect height for my large kitties too. I put them at the corners of the couch and it keeps them from scratching the furniture. Will keep buying these for my fur babies.
I got these to replace broken ones I have at the end of my bed to prevent the kitties from scratching my box spring. They LOVE these. Since I put 2 at the end of my bed, they haven't scratched my box spring once! And they use this all the time!
