About Grandma Lucy’s Artisan Dog Food

Freeze-Dried, Solution-Based Feeding

Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.

Ingredients with a Purpose

It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Artisan recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!

Family Values

Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.

How Freeze-Drying Works

The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.

Delicious and Highly Digestible

All-Natural and Grain-Free

Artisan recipes are minimally processed and made with whole muscle meats, fruits and vegetables.

Limited Ingredient Recipes

Ideal for picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, and those new to freeze-dried food, these limited ingredient recipes are ideal for dogs at every stage of life.

Quality You Can Trust

Artisan recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.

Muscle & Organ Meats

Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.

All Natural

Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.

Grain-Free

Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.

Made in the USA

Every Artisan recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.

About Grandma Lucy’s

Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.

I’ve been feeding this to my dogs ,exclusively, for the last few years. This food looks and smells like real food, because it is! The two pups love breakfast and dinner time. The ritual of making the meals is fun for the dogs and me, they created a little game between when I open the food container and when the timer goes off when it’s ready to eat! Quick enough for someone having to run right out the door, I just tend to set the timer a little longer. When they stay at the kennel the ladies there always comment on how fast they eat it and there is always an empty bowl. Their skin and fur are always healthy looking. Highly recommend this food for anyone with picky dogs, older dogs, or dogs with skin or coat issues.

Dogs Love It

A little goes a long way. Like that it doesn’t spoil. We add it to kibble with water to make a gravy and toss in a few chunks of freshly cooked chicken.

Gave Artisan Chicken to Lucky, but he just sniffed it and would not eat any. I tried serving it both wet as directed and dry with some fresh chicken mixed in. It is not appetizing to Lucky. The smell is alright to me, but not to Lucky. I would say it does not look especially appetizing when wet it's like mushy turkey dressing. When served dry it is too powdery, not chucky pieces. I will have to waste the remainder of the bag. Would be nice to get a trial serving before buying a large bag.

We had a very picky Shih tzu and never did find a kibble that he liked. We found Grandma Lucy’s at Hollywood pet, but it was crazy expensive. I was so happy to find it on Chewy for a great price. Gizmo lived 15 years and 9 months, more than two years longer than his breed’s life expectancy and he ate only Grandma Lucy’s. He never had any health issues, until he was 13 and just had the normal age related slowing down issues. I highly recommend this food for anyone with a pup who it too picky for kibble.

This has changed how we feed our pups.. used to be dry kibble with can of gravy/chunks (except for those occasional "pate" cans that grossed everyone out). Or table scraps, which just isn't healthy. Now I use Grandma Lucy's with the kibble - have been for about a year. I've got two 70+ lb. This freeze dried bag lasts about 4 bags of dry kibble. Dry scoops go in, grab hydrated out of the fridge, mix. Refill for next time, sometimes I'll warm it a little. The pups don't like to wait the 3 minutes for hydration so while they are eating breakfast I just mix dinner & pop it in the fridge. It was super easy for the dog sitter. It's actual food - I see & smell it when I make their food. No more upset stomachs. Regular poop. They are at a much better weight.

fresh and healthy foood for him

He liked it but ate too much too fast. The amount recommended to feed was too much food unless I misunderstood how to feed him
