Solution-based feeding is the focus for all Grandma Lucy’s recipes. Each nutritious freeze-dried formula is made using only wholesome, minimally processed ingredients.
It takes high-quality ingredients to produce high-quality food. That’s why Grandma Lucy’s uses only the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers and farms. Artisan recipes are perfect for all breeds and life stages—feed them as a main meal, topper or as an addition to any homemade treat!
Grandma Lucy’s is a company that cares. They care about pets, they care about nutrition, and they care about ingredients. They also care about giving, and they care about getting it all done right.
The freeze-drying process used by Grandma Lucy’s removes 92% of the water in the ingredients, leaving a food that is lightweight, compact, shelf-stable and preservative-free. Compared to other drying processes like dehydration or air drying, freeze-drying is better at retaining the characteristics of raw food. It preserves more flavor and keeps much of the food’s original texture after reconstitution.
Artisan recipes are minimally processed and made with whole muscle meats, fruits and vegetables.
Ideal for picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, and those new to freeze-dried food, these limited ingredient recipes are ideal for dogs at every stage of life.
Artisan recipes never include by-products, meals, preservatives, added hormones, antibiotics, or feed-grade or animal-grade ingredients.
Only lightly braised, minimally processed whole muscle and organ meats are used, with no meat meals or by-products.
Minimally processed ingredients with added vitamins and minerals make these all-natural recipes naturally nutritious.
Palatable, digestible and perfect for all life stages, these recipes are made without any grain.
Every Artisan recipe is made in small batches at Grandma Lucy’s Southern California facility.
Grandma Lucy’s began when founders Breann & Eric Shook started their quest for safe, healthy dog treats. Their 11-year old English Cocker Spaniel, Lucy, had developed food allergies that prevented her from eating most treats, and as they learned what was in pet food, they were surprised at the inferior ingredient quality. After consulting with vets and nutritionists, they started home cooking Lucy’s meals and treats, and what resulted was the basis for the healthy pet foods they make today.
My girl Kujo Lou loves this stuff! I’ve been using it as a mixer with her dried food and supplements for her weight loss journey and its such a good quality. She has skin allergies and this is one of the first foods I’ve found that doesn’t make her itch!
I could not find a commercially produced food without an ingredient my Pit was allergic too, until I found this. She LOVES this food and it was truly a god send. For those worried about the garlic, like I was at first, her blood work at the vet after 6 months on this food was perfect. 10/10, would definitely recommend.
One of my dogs was recently diagnosed with a heart condition that is going into heart failure. He needs a low to medium sodium diet. My vet asked me to get the information on the sodium content in what I was feeding him. The sodium information can actually make a life and death difference for my precious dog. I have been using Grandma Lucy’s for over a decade. Obviously they would tell me right? They are a company with integrity right? Customer service told me they were not allowed to disclose this information. I fond this quite alarming. Then an officer of the company, Brian Butler, also refused to disclose this information despite repeated requests. If you go to a reputable dog company (like their biggest competitor The Honest Kitchen), not only do they disclose this - they have articles about sodium content on their website. I am horrified and also scared as to what they are hiding. What are the options - they don’t know the sodium content? Or the sodium content is so out of whack it is dangerous for our dogs? PLEASE don’t be as innocent as I have been. Please buy from a reputable company. Do NOT purchase a food from a company that won't disclose the ingredients. And particularly one that won't disclose the ingredients when your dog is sick and your vet needs to know :-(
It is basically mush. I wanted to try something different than some of the other expensive brands but this is not a good substitute at all. It doesn't look anything like the pictures when you rehydrate it and my dogs had diarrhea every time they ate it. I do not recommend this one at all. Try something else if you can and save your dogs stomach.
This is a great, healthy freeze dried/ dehydrated dog food, reconstitute with water, my dogs love it, especially when I add some additional meat and veggies. Only complaint it is hard to find, so I can order from Chewy, best value, or Grandma Lucy’s direct. Yes it is on the higher priced scale, worth it.
While my dog seems to like this food, and it is easy to mix, it made her have 5 to 6 bowel movements a day. That is not feasible if I wanna go out for a few hours. I had to switch back to what I have been using prior.
My pug seems to be enjoying his new dog food. He is allergic to kibble of any kind so this is a god send for him.
I was having a hard time finding the honest kitchen dehydrated and the price had shot way up as well. This was recommended as an alternative and he absolutely loves it, even more than honest kitchen. He keeps licking the bowl after he is done hoping more appears! More economical too.
My dogs will not touch it. I was hoping that it would work out, but even my eat anything dog walks away. There are many options out there keep looking. The only reason I gave it two Stars is that it comes in a good bag. Sorry that I had to give such a bad review. I've never had a food that my dogs turn down before.
The dogs LOVE IT ! I really love it too since it absorbs the water so fast I can serve it within minutes since they both love it so much that they cry while waiting! The smell is pleasant, not at all like dog food, and the clean up is so easy. Nothing greasy or smelly. So nice.
