Has Health Extension been affected by any pet food recalls?
No, our formulas have never had a single recall.
What is the difference between “chicken” meal and “chicken by - product” meal?
Chicken meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Chicken by - product meal contains a variety of chicken “parts” including heads, feet and intestines.
Why do you use garlic in certain formulas?
We add a trace of garlic to our canned dog food to increase palatability. While it is a member of the onion family, garlic does not contain a meaningful amount of disulfide and will not cause a dog to become ill.
Where are Health Extension products sold in my area?
Our holistic pet products are now available at nearly 2000 independent retailers throughout the United States and parts of Canada! Simply use our Store Locator to find the most convenient location.
What is the percentage of meat in the Meaty Mix Chicken & Beef canned formulas?
Made exclusively with meat, each can contains more than 95% of Chicken and Beef, respectively.
Where are Health Extension foods made?
All Health Extension products are proudly made in the U.S.A.
I have been feeding Health Extension to my dog for years, but the last bag that I opened looked darker (or lighter) then before. Should I be concerned about feeding this to my dog?
Health Extension dog foods, cat foods and pet products are all - natural. Our foods have no added artificial colors or flavors. Colors and dyes are used to mask the natural colors which give a consistent color. We expect to see slight variation from batch to batch. This is simply a reflection of the natural ingredients we use and in no way affects the quality of the food.
What is the shelf life of Health Extension?
Health Extension dry foods have an expiration of 1 year from date of manufacture.
How should I transition my pet from a different brand over to Health Extension?
The following 5 day process provided by PetMD usually leads to positive results:* Day 1 - Mix 20% of Health Extension with 80% of the old.* Day 2 - Mix 40% of Health Extension with 60% of the old.* Day 3 - Mix 60% of Health Extension with 40% of the old.* Day 4 - Mix 80% of Health Extension with 20% of the old.* Day 5 - Feed 100% of Health Extension!
Does Health Extension offer free samples so that my pet can try it before I buy a larger bag?
While we do not have samples to send out from our corporate office, these can be obtained from a local retailer.

LIKES IT BUT HAVE TO MIX WITH THE THE STEW
By MelllyMel on Jan 22, 2021
She definitely is tolerating the kibbles she does eat all of it when I mix it with the lamb stew from Stella&Chewy’s and I am trying to also get her dependent on eating the dry by it self but want her to be able to know she’s eating the dry when mixed in. My picky eater is definitely loving the item or else she would pick it out some way. Happy mom still would recommend kibble size is great and ingredients are great to this will continue being our food until she’s old

Buddy says YES
By Buddy on Jan 18, 2021
We recently adopted a little picky eater. Every kibble that we tried prior to Health Extension, he would pick out all the ground meat that I cooked for him and leave the kibble. We tried this one and he eats every single piece. I add it to his home cooked foods to help keep his teeth strong and to ensure he is getting all the nutrition he needs to stay happy and healthy

Picky dogs love
By Gsps on Dec 13, 2020
Due to multi allergies between my 2 dogs , they only can have grain free & poultry free , even chicken fat which is added to many supposed to be chicken free food which is used as a oil /binder , My Virgil breaks out in red rashes from all chicken & most grains and for Emma she is so picky she would go 2 days with out eating if we let her , they are both German Shorthairs , she is not a fan of fish but I gave this a try & she ate it right up & has been eating it since . This was on sale so gave it a try & the dogs love it , as for Rona a small toy rat terrier she loves fish so this was a win win for her . After researching the company & the ingreds found out it was better than what I was feeding Due to multi allergies between my 2 dogs , they only can have grain free & poultry free , even chicken fat which is added to many supposed to be chicken free food which is used as a oil /binder , My Virgil breaks out in red rashes from all chicken & most grains and for Emma she is so picky she would go 2 days with out eating if we let her , they are both German Shorthairs , she is not a fan of fish but I gave this a try & she ate it right up & has been eating it since . After researching the company & the ingreds found out it was better than what I was feeding , a bit more money but hoping the extra money is worth it & so far yes , I am switching to Health Extensions , just bummed no beef but than again most people think Buffalo is close to beef . So far my dogs love the food so it is all worth it knowing they are getting awesome food & will stay healthy . … more

Cooper says YUM!
By Sleigh on Jan 9, 2021
I bought this for my rat terrier mix as he, suddenly, was not really eating the food I feed the other dogs. I like the alternative ingredients and seems to help with his allergies too, but we do combine with a krill oil treat for the allergies as well. Eats the food right up!

Love these bites...very small for little mouths!!
By Provrb31 on Oct 2, 2020
We love all of Health Extension Little Bites. The bites are very, very small...so perfect for our Yorkie rescues that have no teeth, and those that do have teeth. And we love all the healthy ingredients in it...this is our favorite dog food! We also feed this flavor specifically to our Yorkie who has skin allergies, and it works well for her.

By Winnie on Aug 27, 2020
My westie is such a picky eater and has allergies. I opened this up and she immediately started eating it -two helpings! I read that the kibbles were small, but they are smaller than i even expected! Which is totally fine, she seems to love it. Hoping she doesn’t get bored of it after 2 days.

Very small size kibble
By LisaB on Jul 1, 2020
My dog likes this but the customers need to know the size of the kibble. This one is really tiny, like 1/8" round.
