I bought this for my dog. However there is no shelf life on the package. Could you provide some information? Thanks!
Answer by ChewyMay 25, 2018
The Milk Thistle has a shelf life of four years from manufacture, when stored in a cool, dry place.

What other ingredients are in Herbsmith Milk Thistle?
Answer by ChewyAug 22, 2017
The only ingredient of the Herbsmith Herbal Blends Milk Thistle Powdered Dog & Cat Supplement is Ground Milk Thistle. The active ingredient for every 1/4 tablespoon is organic ground milk thistle seed.

My vet ordered this for our cat who weighs 6#1oz. how much should I give her per serving
Answer by ChewyNov 17, 2017
Cats should be given 1/8 teaspoon of this supplement twice a day or as directed by your vet.

Says to give them to them twice a day. I only feed my dogs once a day. Can I just double the dose and do it one time a day?
Answer by ChewyDec 21, 2017
For the supplement to work effectively it's recommended to dose twice per day.

Great stuff!!

My 6 yr old had elevated liver enzymes at his check up last year so I started him on this Milk Thistle. This year his enzymes were totally normal! So easy just sprinkle a bit on his meals and he gobbles it up!

Not that great

The supplement itself is probably good for dogs. I don't know because I can't get my dog to eat this. I wish it was in a pill form because that would be so much easier for her to take. If this works for others, that's great, but it just doesn't work for me.

Recommended by our vet

Good - It has lowered the liver numbers dramatically and stabilized them. She is herself once again with out harsh prescriptions and no side affects. Bad - Surprised the cost has doubled though.

Beware of 100g product, not usda organic

Not organic like other two sizes. The powder also looks different.

Herbsmith Milk Thistle works well!

My 1 year old dog was recently diagnosed with liver issues. My vet recommended that I try adding Milk Thistle to her diet. Being that my little girl is a picky eater, I was quite concerned that she would not touch her food if this product was added. To my surprise, my fussy eater was not bothered by this product. She's only been on this product for about 2 weeks now but I have noticed a big change. Her appetite is much better and she seems to have a lot more energy too. We made another visit to the vet a couple days ago and even my vet noticed the difference. I will continue to keep my fur baby on Herbsmith Powdered Milk Thistle since it does seem to make her feel better.

Great Alternative for Denamarin when used in conjunction with SAM-e tablets

Vet wanted to put my dog on denamarin at $70/month. This and SAM-e tablets (which are the two ingredients in denamarin) cost me $20/month now for basically the same thing. My dog (who is very picky) doesn't even taste this in her food and snarfs it right up. I go back to the vet in a few weeks to see how she is doing, so I don't know if its actually working -- but for cost and taste - we are good to go!

This works great

My dogs vet prescribed denamarin for her liver health. It went out of stock every where and due to the pill size I could not get her to take it without chewing. This product is one of 2 active ingredients in that drug and this one is a powder. My dog doesn’t notice this powdered milk thistle on her food. So easy. I just sprinkle the powder on at mealtime. No more cramming that denamarin pill down her throat every day to prevent her from chewing it.

Had great results with this

I've been feeding this to my 12yo German Shepherd Dog since 2019. He has a history of increased liver enzymes due to age and long term use of prednisone. Just got our most recent labwork back and his enzymes are now within normal limits! This stuff is so affordable (especially when compared to Denamarin!) and WORKS.

Better lab results!!

This is an excellent supplement that helped improve my dog’s ALT.

Really Helped with Liver Enzymes

My cat had several months of high AST and ALT test. I started this product in March and her numbers really dropped - especially the ALT. She eats her food when I mix it in and that is half the battle. I don't know of anything else that I have done to improve her liver enzymes than the purchase and use of the thistle.
