What is the weight of this collar

Where should the o ring be, top or bottom of neck?

Is there only way one to slip on and off? There isn’t a release?

Answer by ChewyNov 25, 2020
This prong collar does not have a quick release. Never slip the pinch collar over your dog’s head and then move it to the bottom of the neck. The right way of putting the prong collar is by unhooking links. Make sure that prongs are not twisted. Put the unhooked collar on the neck of your dog so that the O-ring is to the right side of the neck (not on the top and not on the bottom). Connect the collar by squeezing one link’s end together and placing it in the loop of another link.

Will this collar stain a light colored dogs neck coat?

Answer by ChewyMay 01, 2019
This collar is made from black steel plating and is ideal for dogs with dark fur. It's not recommended for your pet to wear the collar for long periods of time, only during walking or training sessions.

I have a wonderful 10 month old, 58 pound German shepherd Siberian husky mix with a 16 inch neck. He is a bit hyper but super smart and easy to train. He does not need massive correction and well he is a bit SeNsiTiVe. insert husky drama. He does excellent most of the time with positive training methods except when we walk near our road. I was reluctant to use a prong on him due to his personality. After I injured my knee I realized I could not keep up with him or cope with any pulling or jerking he did on the leash accidental or not. One day he got free and ran into the road chasing an SUV with a trailer and nearly got hit by a jeep. For his safety it was time. After a lot of research I decided on the 2.25 mm for him. The company recommends the next size up for 16 inch. I am glad I picked this size for him because it is very responsive and does not lock up. I barely have to touch it. He corrects himself most of the time. And it immediately releases pressure. No husky drama. No, he does not love it. he tolerates it well though. Since he does not care for it he behaves himself so he does not have to feel it. I can walk him without returning home with knee pain. Huskys love to pull but this calms him down so he can think. Prevents him from passing his excitement threshold. Now he is not trying to chase cars motorcycles deer and grasshoppers when out on walks. It has gotten much easier to train the leave it command and boundaries. To make this size work for his 16 inch neck I purchased the 2.25 collar a set of extra links and the cliploc. I only needed one extra link. Perfect. I love this prong for him and the black disappears into his sable coat. No one knows he is wearing a prong collar.

Herm Sprenger best around, this size not for dogs if control is necessary

We purchased this item prior to education on the prong collar because we have a very large dog, unfortunately never use it or have used it as we place it correctly

We purchased this item prior to education on the prong collar because we have a very large dog, unfortunately never use it or have used it as we place it correctly fitted on our dog but the larger the gauge the less control. Even our highly sensitive other dog pays no mind, so we conditioned our highly sensitive GSD back down to 2.5mm. Very happy with Herm Sprenger and because we are moving didn’t take the time to return. This was expensive. Would have given five star review if it wasn’t advertised for dogs. Size is useless in our experience

There is no substitute for Herm Sprenger. Other prong collars get bent out of shape when you put them on/take them off, but not this one (yet). Unfortunately, my dog is *between links*. As in, the 3.0mm collar out of the package is a touch loose on my dog's neck, but removing 1 link is uncomfortably tight. Maybe I should have gotten the 3.0mm short version instead? Regardless, this is a good product provided handlers receive good training.

We have a Catahoula and very strong, she goes into driven chase mood when a car or bike passes us. She has taken me down twice. This collar is a miracle. Our pest control gentleman uses it and recommended it. I thought it looked mean. He told me put it on your arm and try it. It is perfect. This changes the way our daily walk is. It’s very pleasant now.

This collar has been the most effective tool for me reactive dog. It's such a powerful tool to help her listen and understand. She can now pass shoulder to shoulder with another dog on a walk, and not have a huge reaction. I was worried that it would hurt her - I had a certain misinformed association with prong collars. We'd also tried a choke chain with BAD results, she would still bark and tug and just be choked by the collar. THIS is a completely different experience. it automatically cinches slightly if she reacts, resulting in a clear redirection, without her being completely choked. I love it.

Use properly, please.

This is a very good collar but difficult to put on and remove. I bought a herm springer clasp. If it came with it I'd rate it 5 stars.
