FAQ

How Can I Make Grooming an Exciting Experience?

Imagine a life where your dog loves being groomed. When you pull out the brush or nail trimmers, your dog comes running—just as if you opened a new bag of treats. How would that make you feel?It is never too late to train your pet to love being brushed. With a little time and patience, you and your puppy, adult, or senior dog can look forward to sharing relaxing grooming time.Be sure of your strategy: ATTITUDE, TIME, REWARDAttitude - All grooming interactions should be positive experiences for both the groomer and the one being groomed. Any time you are thinking that training for a good grooming experience is a chore is not a good time to practice. Wait until you are in the right frame of mind so that the training time is positive for both you and your dog.Time - Short training sessions are always the most productive. If you notice your dog is reluctant to participate, then you are probably going faster than the dog would like. Slow down and use a higher-value treat or reward to make the time more comfortable for your dog. There is no rule that says you have to trim every toenail every session.Reward - Train (and practice) in small steps that emphasize fun and rewards. When you start to train a new behavior, use your dogs’ favorite treats. However, once your dog understands what you’re asking him to do; you can start to decrease the value of the treat.

How Often Should I Trim My Dog's Nails?

You should trim your dog’s nails whenever they are long. If they keep getting snagged or “click” on the floor as your dog walks, you know it’s time to get the clippers. Long unkempt nails can become ingrown or cause serious infections. Clip the dewclaw nail just inside the leg as well.

For Best Results; How Should I Trim My Dog's Nails?

  • To trim your pet’s nails, place his paw in your hand and hold each toe with your index finger and your thumb. Do not squeeze the toe, but hold it firmly. * Hold the nail Clipper / Grinder with the other hand. This position will give you more precision and prevent you from cutting the nails too short. * Try cutting the dog’s nail at a minor angle, taking small snips as you go. If you cut back the nails too far and accidentally clip the quick (this is the pink part just under the nail), it can cause bleeding and a lot of discomfort for your dog, resulting in a dog that dislikes grooming time in the future. Be careful with dark nails as the quick is difficult to see. A good tip is to trim the nail when wet as its softer then. Better still; consider using a dog nail grinder instead.

    Awesome tool

    By on

My cat was so matted, she’s a large cat and the matted hair was on her back. She aloud (would tolerate) for a few minutes a day. It took 4 days but her coat is beautiful now. Highly recommend this product. (Thought we were going to have to shave her)

    This worked wonders!

I didn’t think anything would help my long haired cat who was completely matted on one side and I was on the verge of shaving her. I bought this as a last ditch effort before doing so and IT WORKED! After a few sessions throughout the day she is completely mat free now.

    Amazing for Removing Matted Hair

    By on

I received this last night in the mail. It took 4 rounds of combing with this to get the mats out of my cats back hair. I only worked on him for a minute or less at a time because it was stressful for him. It did hurt him a little but ANYTHING was going to hurt to get the mats out at that point. I was so very pleased that this brush/comb pretty much just sliced its way thru the mats and he is now mat free. I also used this on my Labrador and even though she does not have mats, it removed quite a lot of hair in a very short time. I would definitely recommend this to someone trying to remove mats from their pet.

    Perfect for Lefties!

    By on

This is a rugged dematting comb that works well on my Sheltie's undercoat. It gets those annoying tiny mats that he occasionally gets right next to his skin without any discomfort for him. Being double sided is a real plus, easy to use whether you are right or left handed. The well designed handle eliminates hand fatigue when grooming several dogs in a row. Wonderful product!

    Works great!

    By on

I bought this for my long haired cat due to a bad grooming experience. I decided to take the task into my own hands, and this tool is great for getting the job done at home. It works wonders! I wish I would have taken before and after pictures during the first use. Got tons of her winter coat off with initial use, but I brush her with it once a week to maintain her coat. Definitely recommend!

    Such a nice brush

    By on

I love this brush! Even the short hair gets pulled from the undercoat. The long haired cats mattes need to be held while you pull, because it does take a little tugging to cut. But they all seem to like it!

Only shedding rake you will ever need

    By on

Wowzer and Wowzer's. I have owned German Shepherds for almost 40 years and have used alot of grooming tools for the twice a year blowing of the coat. I had heard a friend talk about a tool she had bought, but couldn't remember where she got it, or what it was called. I saw hers and then went to Chewy's search box and found what I thought was a close match. Regardless, this tool is so far past awesome and in a manner of a couple of sessions lasting about 15 minutes each my usual taking a week of raking was done. I cannot say enough good things about this product.

    Better for thinning fur/hair

    By on

I ordered this based on other reviews. I have a cat with extremely long and thick hair. We had her shaved a year ago to remove mats which unfortunately caused behavior problems. I did not want to go through that again so I went in search of alternatives. My tuxedo cat is not the nicest kitty so we’ve had to work in stages on her many mats. This comb thins the top layers of her hair so I can get to the base of the mat safely. It is not a Miracle but has helped. I think with regular use we won’t have the same problem a year from now.

    Not for short hair cats

    By on

My old, short-haired tiger cat is very matted. This comb basically goes right over the mats. I was hoping for something that would cut the mats out.
