I am not sure exactly what changed from when I started ordering this food several years ago to the last several orders. The first time the food was different I figured it would be a one time issue; perhaps something did not mix properly/machine error. But every batch from then on has been the same. The color used to be dark and uniform. Now some pieces are light, some dark. My dog stopped liking the food with that first unusual batch and has not liked it since. She used to love it. Something is off with this food. Really disappointed. The quality went down, but the price did not.
I tried this food for a month and for a month my dog had to poop 4-5 times daily. She would wake up in the middle of the night and if we didn't hear her I would come down to a giant pile by the door. She never had accidents before this food. She didn't lose any weight and it wasn't worth any of the trouble.
My dog ate it well for 3 days maybe. Will not touch it unless I put different food at the bottom of the dish. My other dogs are like billy goats and will eat it but unfortunately it is not for them
I got my first bag of Hills prescription food from the vet and he sent authorization to Chewy for a year prescription. Chewy was awesome in handling the transaction!! My dog was 30 pounds overweight prior to starting him on this food. At his 4 week check up, he already lost 5 pounds!!! So excited for my dog!!!
I bought this food upon my veterinarian's recommendation. Later, I consulted a holistic veterinarian who schooled me on the dangers of glyphosate--a toxic carcinogen contained in most commercial dog food. Further, consumers are directly mislead by the label "prescription"--as this "feed-grade" product neither treats, cures or mitigates disease. Almost all of Hill's Prescription Diets receive a sub-par rating for ingredient quality and safety. I reached out to the CEO's of both Chewy.com and Hill's Pet Nutrition--and so far, they have deliberately evaded my questions. My princess is an extremely and I mean extremely picky and finicky eater! She literally will not eat anything that I put in front of her and have to fight her in order to get her to eat. She does like this food and will actually eat it without me having to fight her. Her vet recommended it to shave about 10 lb off of her so we will see how it does in a month or so. She also has arthritis, so I'm sure shaving a few pounds off her will help her joints.
I have a 7 year old beagle that is treat driven. She would not eat her food but would devour treats. She has lost nearly 7 lbs in 20 days eating this food. She has a torn ACL and recently diagnosed with Cushings. Her limp has gotten much better!
I have a 11 years old Lab mixed with Basset Hound. She was overweight so her joints was suffering, she barely can move, so veterinarian put her on a diet. If you follow the bag instructions you will obtain the results that you are looking for. She lost almost 10 lbs after the 3 months and 5 pounds after that. We was a little strict about not giving her extra treats (at least at the beginning) but now that she is back on track, the doctor recommended still feeding her with this because also help with her joints.
My old girl had never been a picky eater but she absolutely refuses to eat this. My mother in laws did was prescribed the same brand got her dog and her dog won’t eat it either. I thought she was just being picky but now I’m guessing this brand just doesn’t peak their interest. Not saying it’s not a good food but doesn’t matter if they won’t eat it.
This is really good dog food if your dog has mobility issues and is overweight. He love the taste, too. But its so expensive! My border collie is so worth it, though. Only the best for my little man.
