Awesome for treats
At about $4-$5 per lb, this is a no-brainer for serving as treats for dental care and much cheaper then buying actual "treats." I removed one star because I think the nugget size could be a little smaller for cats with tiny mouths. My average to large cats have no issues crunching on these.
Not for my crew
Since one of our other choice cat food is no longer available I have been trying different types. It’s always hard to tell how big the pieces are when you’re ordering online as was the case with this cat food. The pieces of kibble are a bit larger than my cats are used to and it did not go over well. I do want to add I think the kibble is a tad bit on the softer side than most but my cats still did not like it.
Kitty won’t eat pieces that big
My cat liked the taste but the kibble was too big for her to break through so she only ate a few pieces, then stopped eating it at all. It’sa good food but your cat needs to be willing to break up a big chunk of food. I give me kitty Greenie dental treats which are big to chew through but not huge like these bits are. I say use those instead to help keep their teeth scraped clean
Tale of two kitties
I fed my two cats this oral care food their whole adult lives. One would chew it properly, the other would swallow it whole. The one that chewed it passed away at 20 years with sparkly strong white teeth that had nearly no plaque (completely amazed at how great her teeth were) the other cat that swallowed it whole passed at 18 years with plaque covered teeth that didn’t look healthy. As long as your cat chews this food, it works amazingly well!
It's a hit
All 3 of my young kitties love this food. The vet recommended it for their bad breath, tartar and gums. The kibble is not too large or hard for their young mouths to chew. Tartar already looks better on their teeth and breath is more pleasant after only a few weeks!
Cats are Starving
I have three cats between the ages of 1-6 years. None of them have any issues with the size of the kibble and they all seem to enjoy it, but every single night they are STARVING. Each cat is given about a cup of food a day, which is more than enough, but they’re all visibly losing a significant amount of weight! My middle cat has never had any sort of behavioral issues in his life, but now he wails at night begging for food and will steal food from the table. I’ve only been using this food for a month, but that’s too long. Going to have to move on…
The adult oral care was recommended by a veterinarian to help with early periodontal issues in our 18 month old kittens. One of the three tried to eat it, but didn’t seem to be able to bite through the kibble. Because I was afraid they would choke on it if they couldn’t break it up, I only put it out when I was there to watch them it. I tried using it as a toy/treat, which they would chase and bat, but would not attempt to eat it. My older cats showed no interest in it. I would not recommend this for your cats unless you have an opportunity to try a sample bag first.
My cat has difficulty chewing such large pellets of dry food.
I purchased this food to try and save my cat's teeth and gums from further harm. My cat loves the flavor, but I wish the pellets were smaller and easier for her to chew.
My cats love it!
The oral dry cat food I've been using for years doesn't seem to be available anymore, so I decided to try Hill's Science Diet Adult Oral Care Dry Cat Food instead. All I can say is both of my cats love it...better than what I had been feeding them. And it must be healthy, because that's the brand I see on display in my vet's office! Can't do better than that!
Why is the kibble so large and hard?
Smells great and I love the products Hills offers usually, but oh my kibble is huge. My cat can not bite on it either, she tries to bite on it and then drops it out of her mouth. I will have to say my cats oral health isn’t the most optimal, and honestly I am kind of worried now that since this has promising reviews, that my cats oral health is actually worse than I thought! Oh well, I hope it works for other cats. For anyone who has also had this same situation, did you try to work around the issue in any way? (Like adding water to the dry food or softening it up in some way?) thank you!
