Questions & Answers

In followup to the question regarding a chicken allergy and whether there are any chicken products in the duck recipe, if the dehydrated egg ingredient is from a chicken, wouldn't that be considered a chicken product?

Answer by ChewyJun 16, 2018
The chicken egg included in this food is due to the fact that cases in which pets who are allergic to chicken react to egg products are rare. For this reason, it is advisable to consult with your veterinarian prior to starting this food if your dog has a chicken allergy.

The 5th ingredient is dehydrated egg, since this is a duck formula can you please confirm that the egg is a duck egg and not a chicken egg?

Answer by ChewyApr 19, 2018
The dehydrated egg is from a chicken egg.

What part of the duck is used in recipes? Organ meat?, bones?, whole duck?

Answer by ChewyApr 12, 2023
The manufacturer only uses duck meat for this recipe. Their dehydrated recipes won't contain any bones or organ meat. The duck is 100% cage-free (free-roaming), with a percent being free range (from Pitman Farms). The duck is sourced from Jurgielewicz, and Pitman Farms (both suppliers are NAE (no antibiotics ever), veggie fed). The Jurgielewicz ducks are raised free-roaming in large temperature-controlled barns and are fed only a nutritious diet. The ducks are never fed any antibiotics or hormones to promote growth. Jurgielewicz Farms is the only duck farm in America with two “round-the-clock” veterinarians as well as a full-time duck welfare specialist to train employees and conduct duck welfare audits. Pitman Farms’ ducks grow naturally with plenty of open space on a ranch in sunny California. These ducks are raised in a humane manner by allowing them to roam in a stress-free environment that is four times the size of the average commercial ranch.

When it says dried navy bean in the ingredients, does it mean it's cooked or raw beans?

Answer by ChewyJan 22, 2019
The beans are flash heated and then gently dehydrated to remove the moisture.

This is a very expensive food that I bought for my small Morkie. I was hoping for a more healthy food option than dry kibble. He wouldn’t touch it. I then begrudgingly gave it to my large Shepard (it’s too expensive to give to him always) and he wouldn’t touch it either. If two very different dogs won’t eat it, I would be very hesitant to recommend to anyone. I bought the duck one because they both absolutely love the duck jerky. Complete waste of money for our dog family.

Duck was a nice change

Unfortunately it's discontinued. Doesn't smell great though compared to turkey or chicken.

Despite it being specifically for dogs with food allergies, my dog wouldn't eat this, and when she did, she threw it up about an hour later. I called Chewy after trying for a week or more, and they were quick to refund the amount and honor their guarantee. We'll go back to a flavor/type that agrees with her and appreciate the Chewy customer service. Continuing to be a long-term customer.

Sadly, the lack of Honest Kitchen stood out.....

Honest Kitchen is no longer being carried by Chewy which is very disappointing.

Great ingredients

The food's taste was a hit with my dog, but the pricing feels off given the simpler ingredient list. It's surprisingly expensive for what you get. I chose this product

The food's taste was a hit with my dog, but the pricing feels off given the simpler ingredient list. It's surprisingly expensive for what you get. I chose this product hoping fewer ingredients would ease my dog's digestion issues, but unfortunately, it caused significant itching, particularly around his ears. I suspect poultry might be the culprit, so we'll be steering clear of it moving forward.

Pups not a fan

Neither dog liked this food. They left it and had to put in fridge, but eventually ate it later. Too expensive for our dogs not to like it.
