I am feeding this to my doggies. Is it OK to top it off with boiled chicken? Just a little? They like it but I can't see the actual meat and it makes me feel bad, like I'm not giving them a good meal.

Answer by ChewyJul 07, 2018
The 4 pound box contains 7 pounds of chicken and the 10 pound box contains 19 pounds of chicken, prior to dehydration of the ingredients. You may add other ingredients as wanted, please keep in mind your pets daily caloric intake and individual needs.

Buy this product from another company

I learned today that Chewy sells this product at the same cost as “fresh” year expiration date dog food for the SAME price as food that has degraded in their warehouse for about a year. The consumer is getting cheated. I’ve purchased this product for a year and found it underwhelming for the price vs quality. About 2 months ago I received a box with a year expiration date. The dog food smelled better, set up properly )could hold more water - it’s dehydrated) and our dog seemed more full. I just got a box today with a 3 month expiration. Told by Chewy’s customer service that that is their standard (minimum 3 months). Now why would anyone be willing to pay the same price for lower, degraded quality dog food than fresh dog food? I can NOT do business with a provider that cares more about their bottom line than the products they sell. Looks like I’ll need to find a supplier that is willing to provide fresh, quality products. This product has a premium price and I’m happy to pay it but not for inferior quality dog food. I would recommend finding a new supplier for your pet needs.

I was excited about this food as we’ve used other types of HK dehydrated food but the consistency is very different. Maybe because of the limited ingredients? It doesn’t absorb as much as water as the other HK kinds we’ve tried so in order to get the consistency we need for our dogs we have to add less water (about 1/3 of what I usually add to the regular HK type) to get the desired consistency for our dogs. If I add the same amount of water I add to the regular chicken food it will be liquid like soup. This means that the food doesn’t last as long as the other dehydrated HK we have bought before.

Had to use much less water than recommended to make a hydrated consistency that wasn't watery. Very little chicken pieces, mostly seems to be kale.

Disappointed

For my $90 plus dollars I got a 10lb bag of powder. I was expecting chunks of whole food like the advertisement says. Very deceptive marketing around this product

For my $90 plus dollars I got a 10lb bag of powder. I was expecting chunks of whole food like the advertisement says. Very deceptive marketing around this product. We'll see how well my dog enjoys his first protein shake. I will not be purchasing from "the honest kitchen" ever again.
