All of The Honest Kitchen recipes are safe to feed to a senior dog. However, for senior dogs, it is typically recommended to stay low calorie, low fat, and moderate to low protein. For these reasons, we would suggest starting with the dehydrated Grain Free Fish, Whole Grain Turkey, or Whole Grain Beef recipes.

We've used the Honest Kitchen toppers and the slippery elm for a while. The pups have been on the raw diet (Stella & Chewy), but that has gotten $$$. We wanted to figure out an equivalent alternative that we can mix in with the food we make for them and/or kibble. They've really enjoyed this food and both run to their crates when it's mealtime. We haven't had any trouble getting it to oatmeal consistency. We warm the water in the microwave for about a minute, mix it in to the food, and let it sit for a few minutes. Both dogs eat it up and haven't had any tummy troubles. In fact their #2s have been more consistently solid since we started a few days ago. Great product!

My Yoko girl is so excited when I put this food down. She used to be on another allergy prescription diet; and would let it sit and hardly ever finish it. Even though this one is a little stinky, she is so much happier and excited to eat. She also goes back a couple of times to lick her bowl. It’s so cute. Definitely would recommend. The only thing I would be cautious of is how much water it recommends. When I put the recommended water, it’s way too watery. I just add a little as I got until it’s an oatmeal consistency.

It was shared by someone in frenchie rescue and I’m so pleased and would want to share either others. I have even reduced the allergy medication for the frenchie with the intent of trying to take him off it all together.

I don't know how this got so many good reviews. This food is very hard for my dog to digest and he has a pretty strong stomach. A day after eating the food he threw-up

I don't know how this got so many good reviews. This food is very hard for my dog to digest and he has a pretty strong stomach. A day after eating the food he threw-up large, hard chunks of the food. Thankfully he is a big boy and didn't choke. I wouldn't take the risk and feed this to my dogs.

That recipe is nowhere near as soupy as this one. I'm not sure why as they both recommend the same measurements. But again, my dog seems to like it, but still prefers her training treats over all food.

I have to sneak to prepare the food because it should sit for a few minutes to rehydrate before feeding them. I have 3 dogs, a mini aussie, a golden retriever and, a standard aussie. As soon as they see me preparing the food, they whine until I feed them because they are so excited. The standard aussie is very picky and any other food I have fed, she has leftovers. There are definitely no leftovers with Honest Kitchen.
