The transition from kibble to a raw diet should proceed slowly over 7 - 10 days to avoid upsetting your pet's digestive system. Transitioning may take longer for older, sick or finicky pets. To transition, begin with a pinch of rehydrated Sojos added to your pet’s dish, and gradually increase the Sojos serving each day, as you decrease the other food.
Simply said, raw food is served as nature intended—rich in naturally - occurring nutrients and enzymes. The ingredients in traditional pet foods, on the other hand, are altered by harsh processing—and the lost nutrients are replaced artificially with additives and sprayed - on synthetic vitamins and minerals. That said, there’s no question that kibble foods are convenient—but shelf - stable, grain - free, freeze - dried raw alternatives offer the same convenience without losing any of the taste, aroma and nutrition naturally found in fresh from the field food.
Sojos’ raw, shelf - stable foods enable pet parents to serve fresh, home - prepared meals in minutes—just by adding water. It's raw made easy. And for guilt - free treating, we make a variety of freeze - dried raw meat and oven - baked dog treats.
Our food recipes include a combination of gently freeze - dried meat—and air - dried fruits & veggies. All ingredients in all of our foods are raw.Meat begins to cook at 115 degrees. But fruits and veggies have a higher cook - temp and can be dehydrated via an air - drying process, while maintaining the nutritious enzymes only found in raw ingredients. There can be a little confusion about the term ‘dehydrated’ because meat cannot be dehydrated and remain raw. But fruits and veggies can indeed be dehydrated and remain raw.
Our food contains no fillers, so you feed less than what you would with traditional pet food. As a result, the price per day is about the same or less than most premium commercial pet foods. In the long run feeding your pets fresh, wholesome pet food can also save you money on vet bills.
While it’s true that dogs and cats are carnivores, bear in mind that when a carnivore eats another animal, they are also eating whatever that animal ate—often fruits and veggies. So, to get a truly complete diet, a variety of ingredients are critical. Not to mention, the superfood fruits and veggies included in our recipes pack a serious nutritional punch, providing health benefits for your pets.
Sojos products are made from scratch in Minneapolis, MN and we source as many ingredients as possible domestically—about 80%. Because of seasonality and the protein options included in our recipes, we do source elsewhere when necessary. For example, our venison comes from New Zealand and our goat comes from Australia. Simply put, they are ingredients that could just as easily end up in your pantry or on the shelves of your local co - op.
Many people believe that garlic is harmful to dogs, and in large, concentrated doses this can be true. However, in the proportions that we use, it is highly beneficial to heart health, acts as a natural flea repellant, an anti - oxidant and anti - bacterial ingredient. Just like with humans many things are healthy (and indeed necessary!) in small doses but potentially harmful in large, concentrated doses.
For our Complete recipes and Wild recipes, simply add water, soak and serve. For Sojos Pre - Mix recipes, simply add water, the protein of your choice, soak and serve.
Look for an all - natural, USDA - approved raw protein to add to Sojos Pre - Mixes. The type of protein you choose depends on your dog’s individual nutritional needs and preferences. Your local butcher or grocery store is a great resource for meat recommendations.
Adding ingredients or supplements to our food recipes isn’t necessary, unless you’re feeding a Pre - Mix, in which case you should add the recommended amount of meat. Our Complete and Wild recipes are formulated to meet the AAFCO Nutrient Profiles and can be fed alone. As always, check with your holistic vet or nutritionist—especially if your dog has specific health requirements.
You don’t need to add anything to your pet’s meal (besides protein if you’re feeding a Pre - Mix recipe). Our foods include an all - natural blend of vitamins and minerals that provide all the nutrients your pet needs.
Our feeding guidelines recommend your dog’s daily portion size. So if you feed twice daily, simply divide the portion in half to determine how much you should feed per meal.
Our feeding chart guidelines include measurements using dry Sojos. There's no way to get an accurate measurement once Sojos is rehydrated, because there are too many unpredictable variables that will affect the actual rehydrated volume. Our natural ingredients can vary slightly in size from 1 bag to the next. Not to mention the soak time, temperature of water, temperature of soak environment (fridge vs the counter), etc can all affect the rehydrated volume.
Room temperature water is ideal. Do not add boiling water, as this will cook out the natural enzymes found in raw food.
All of our food recipes and freeze - dried meat treats should be stored in a cool, dry place. Do not store dry Sojos in the refrigerator.
Soaking improves digestibility. Cats and dogs have a strong, but short, digestive tract designed to quickly break down and absorb foods. Grains and veggies require more complex digestion than meats, fruit and other foods, so having them soak in water a minimum of 15 minutes is critical. You can also soak overnight in the fridge.
Any leftover food should be treated like fresh food, covered and refrigerated or discarded. Sojos is best served fresh, within 24 hours within of prep.
Do not microwave your dog’s rehydrated Sojos. This will cook the raw ingredients.
Sojos recipes include bite size, natural ingredient chunks. If your pup prefers a smoother blend, or has dental issues, feel free to blend once rehydrated.
Each meal will rehydrate a little differently depending on the food mix itself, the temperature of water you used, the amount of time you soaked, etc. So, there’s no way to pinpoint the exact volume once rehydrated.
An 8 lb bag of Sojos Complete contains 40 of dry food. The amount you feed your pup depends on several factors, including weight and activity level. But for an average sized dog, with an average activity level, an 8 lb bag of Sojos Complete will last roughly 1 month. Find our feeding charts here.
Sojos food products have a 18 - month shelf - life when stored in a cool, dry place. The “Best By” date is printed on the top corner of the back of your bag.
We cannot guarantee food or recommend you feed it to your pet if it’s past the expiration date.

My golden retriever is 6 yrs and highly allergic to Salmon, Turkey, Chicken and Corn. This is great, i just add fresh or frozen vegetables, Rice, Oats or Barley and a protein. I make a weeks worth at a time and keep it in the refrigerator. Then at mealtime i mix up the Sojo vegetarian mix and add my own carb, veggie and protein mixture to it. Simple and its just as good as the expensive human grade dog food now out there.
Sojos is my dogs and my favorite fruit & veggie premix! I like that I can actually tell what is in the bag and that it isn’t ground down into a powder. My one complaint is is that it is light on green veggies, so I ‘fix’ that by adding frozen chopped spinach/kale/whatever other leafy green I find on sale to the container of food I’m mixing up and it seems to balance it out a little. Like other premixes I just add the dry mix to my ground meat and the moisture from the meat rehydrates the mix. My dogs prefer their food a little ‘stiffer’ so not adding water to the premix accomplishes that. Out of the many brands of freeze dried and dehydrated brands of food that make premixes and ‘complete’ meals, this is my favorite brand. Less ‘fillers’ than other brands, and consistent quality.
Mix -a-meal is a great addition to our dog’s food. We have been feeding him Sojo’s for 8 years; it is the best supplement value despite several price increases. Chewy seems to be the only source. It is not sold locally any longer. My disappointment with Chewy was the inability to use the $20 gift card that arrived in the mail including a code to use at check-out. The website kicked it out. The subsequent email offer is also for $20.00 but cannot be added to my account. Is this an offer only for auto ship customers? Nothing in the fine print indicates that. Why would Chewy offer savings and reject codes?
My pet like it and it is more convenient when we are on road trip that no place to cook or buy vegetables for him.
This product has been way better than the competitor’s grain free base mix. We switched to this when the competitor was out of stock and it’s been the best find. The dogs absolutely love it - and their poop is firmer too! Plus - it lasts far longer than the competitor for the same price. Won’t ever go back!
I used to use the Original (orange bag) mix, but that’s apparently not made anymore. My dogs enjoyed it, so I add steel cut or rolled oats to this mix, as well as more dried parsley. Then I mix it one-to-one with Sojos Turkey mix. I use this more as a garnish on dry food than on its own, so the big bag lasts me quite a while.
There's no issue with the quality of the food or even the price. It's absolutely good food. My issue is that there are CHUNKS of food items in the mix that my little dogs pick out and leave all over the floor! I have had to go buy a food processor to grind the mix and the added meat in to a paste. This food has created MORE work and time to prepare my dogs' meals AND MORE clean up. Not happy with this situation!
It is a high quality, easy to use pre-mix for dogs who are on a raw food diet! They are prompt & customer oriented!!!
I was expecting this to be a giant bag, because they discontinued the old mix from this brand and replaced it with this? The giant bag was less than this and I am not impressed with this new mix. Very disappointed.
Last year Honest Kitchen stopped supplying the limited ingredient chicken dog food and we found ourselves in an emergency situation of trying to find a replacement for a dog with a few food allergies! Luckily we found SOJOS. Our dog absolutely loves this food and seems more excited with it than the Hon Kit. food. We feed him this 3 times a day, adding our own Chicken to the meals. He's a 90 lb lab and is doing great with it.
