Can this grass be grown outdoors (in a garden)? Will it survive in zone 4?

Answer by ChewyJun 29, 2018
This grass is intended to be grown indoors with low lighting.

my cat loves this. can a cat eat too much grass?

Answer by ChewyAug 03, 2021
Cats love the fresh greens, they aid in digestion and help manage hairballs. A fresh supply is recommended so cats can graze at will and when needed. Over consumption generally is not a problem. However, it is important to monitor your cat and it’s eating habits. If you notice a change in your cat’s eating habits, there could be an underlying issue and it is recommended to seek the care of a veterinarian.

Can my dog, rat, and mice enjoy this too?

I was trying to get one of our cats to eat wheatgrass when she was having digestive issues, but she was pretty indifferent to it. By trying a sampler pack of different grasses, though, I realized that she actually preferred oatgrass instead, but since you can't buy it in sprouted containers at the grocery store like wheatgrass, we grow it from seeds instead. It's really easy - just place a solid layer of seeds in a small planter and water daily, and you'll see it sprout in just a couple of days! Once the grass is at least 4 inches high, you can let your cat loose on it, and you can usually get it to grow back a couple of times before the seeds are spent. This big bag makes it very economical to give your cats fresh grass to chew on all the time, much cheaper than buying wheatgrass cartons at the store!

I can grow my own grass

My cat thinks she's doing something wrong when she nibbles on the plant. Whenever I'm approaching her while nibbling, she takes off running. lol I tried to encourage

My cat thinks she's doing something wrong when she nibbles on the plant. Whenever I'm approaching her while nibbling, she takes off running. lol I tried to encourage her that the plant is hers to eat. I even cut up a few stands and put them in her bowl. She sniffed, but did not eat it. Ohh well. Hopefully, she'll get use to it.

Our cats, especially one, love to eat plants. This grass was to hopefully let them enjoy some green plants without risk to them or to our house plants. I did find that the grass started off and grew much faster by disobeying the instructions and putting it outside in indirect sunlight rather than indoors. It grew fast, full, and tall - exceeding our expectations. Of course we'll have to grow it indoors during winter months. The cats loved it so much we had to put it up for fear that they'd eat too much at a time and get sick, lol. It was almost as if it had catnip in it (but it doesn't). We don't keep it going all the time, but use it as a periodic treat that satisfies their desire for green plants. There's enough in the package that I won't have to buy any more for quite a while. It really goes a long way.

I’m a gardener and have been growing plants from seed for years. I usually get the seeds from various seed companies, but they’re all out of stock and so I tried these. They were a big hit with my cats. Here’s some tips if you’re interested: sow thickly in a good quality potting soil. Keep it moist (not soggy) and in a sunny spot or under grow lights. The container should be 4-6” high to allow sufficient room for healthy root growth. They will devour it in a matter of minutes, so I typically sow 4 pots at a time, every week or so. The grass will re-grow but you can also just sow more.

The seeds sprout quickly

You can grow the grass from the bag, but that wasn't going to work with my cats, so I put it in a bow. It started sprouting after only 2 days.

Good value

Germinate easily and much cheaper than buying small pot with already growing grass. I've reseeded 2 pots multiple times and there is still over half a bag left
