Minimally Processed and Never Cooked

Eating a diet rich in minimally processed foods is just as good for our pets as it is for us. Instinct raw recipes are made with responsibly sourced meat and non-GMO fruits and vegetables that are minimally processed—and never cooked—to keep their nutrients intact. Less processed food allows for better digestion and nutrient absorption, so your furry friend gets more nutrients with every bite.

The Raw Difference

Unlike traditional, cooked pet foods, raw pet food retains more important antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins and minerals that are key to better health. Feeding as little as 20% raw as part of your pet’s diet can have a positive impact on your pet’s life. Common changes noticed by pet parents who feed raw include better digestion, improved skin and coat, improved weight, relief from food sensitivities, and increased energy and vitality.

Questions & Answers

12 Customer Questions

Is this pathogen-free?
Answer by ChewySep 21, 2021
This recipe is raw. Instinct uses High Pressure Processing (also known as HPP or Cold Pressure) on all of their frozen and freeze-dried raw recipes to ensure they are free from pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella, E. Coli, and Listeria. This is the same process used for human foods like cold-pressed juices and guacamole. They also test every batch for safety before it leaves their facilities.

What is the shelf life of an opened bag?
Answer by ChewyJun 11, 2021
Unopened Mixers have a shelf life of two years, keeping in mind not to exceed the printed expiration date. Once opened, Mixers are fresh for up to 30 day as long as it’s resealed between feedings.

Is this safe for cats?
Answer by ChewyDec 04, 2019
Instinct by Nature's freeze-dried Raw Boost Mixers - whether labeled "cat" or "dog" - are suitable for either species since they are for supplemental feeding and not a complete and balanced meal. They are packaged differently to make it easy for cat and dog parents to easily locate them in their pet store, but nutritionally these Mixers can be served interchangeably.

How many servings are there per bag? Based off of one serving being 1/4 cup

Never again

I'm never buying this ever again I feed my dog this and she would not eat her food she would just eat the mixers and not her real food but it did help her skin and when I tried to feed her food she would walk away or sniff it and walk away and my dog is little picky but this made her more picky never again I'm buying this

Great treats!

I use these as treats for my adult, large dogs. The pieces are a great size and my dogs have loved every flavor they've tried. These work well as treats since they are not hard and crunchy that require chewing, but also aren't moist like traditional training treats that get crumbly and hard when they start drying out. I also like the ingredients more than most training treats. I prefer not to feed "grain-free" products, but these do not contain the ingredients typically used to replace grains so these seem ok. Since I use these as treats I don't think the dogs get the full serving recommended to help with skin and coat health so I can't say if that aspect of this product is true or not. Due to the cost and recommended feeding amount for the size of my dogs I wouldn't use this as a food topper.

Yummy But No Skin Improvements

The gut health worked wonders for keeping my pup regular so I decided to try this to see if it would help her dry skin/shedding. While she did enjoy them, there was unfortunately no improvement in her skin. While I'm taking it off of autoship I like having some around for use as healthy treats.

A Winner

My 5 lb, 12yr old Yorkie loves this mixer. Use this as a topper. Has periodic skin issues. Hopefully it will help. Used 2 weeks.

Liked at first but then got tired of them

I bought the 3 pack combo. Our pup liked it at first but it also made him gassy. He lost interest so we switched to the frozen version instead he seems to enjoy.

Food Topper

Both of my dogs liked this topper. I didn't notice any changes to their skin or coats, but they liked the flavor! It could also work well for training treats.

used them as treats

Dog loved these on her food, and even more so when we soaked them in water before adding them, but in the end they ended up being most useful as treats. They don't really have an odor. I was worried they'd be so dry she'd choke on them because she doesnt always do a great job chewing her food before she swallows, but they were small enough that it didn't seem to be a problem. I prefer these to the frozen version of this same product, as these are easier to add to food (no thawing).
