Can I use any kind of omega oil or do I have to use the just food for dogs omega plus oil?

How many ounces is this
Answer by ChewyMar 31, 2022
This recipe makes about 30 pounds of food once prepared. This converts to about 480 ounces of food per canister (prepared). The Nutrient Blend itself is a powder mixture and is very light outside of the aluminum canister it is stored inside.

Do you specify amount of this to use, for just a small bowl of my simple homemade chicken and white rice recipe?
Answer by ChewyJun 03, 2022
For a complete list of feeding guideline, click the “Feeding Instructions” tab, next to the “Nutritional Info” tab, just under the product photos.

Would this be okay as a " topper "?
Answer by ChewyMay 23, 2023
The DIY Chicken Nutrient Blend can be used as a topper for up to eight weeks, after opening.

If You Love To Cook For Your Dogs, This is The Bomb

I absolutely love to cook for my 8 dogs, and they love me for it. I've tried a couple of the fresh foods out there, and they are very good and very well received, but just too pricey to serve as anything but toppers. And I found myself missing the food prep! I bought the Chicken and White Rice Recipe, and the Fish and Sweet Potato Recipe. Since I am used to cooking for them, the prep was no problem. I used my food processor to grind the meat and the veggies for the chicken recipe, but just cut the ingredients for the Fish recipe into bites small enough for tiny dogs. Both times made large batches and froze what I couldn't use in three days. They went wild for both. I plan to try the other flavors, with the exception of venison because it is not widely available, though when hunting season comes to my deep woods, I can probably charm some out of my neighbors. Great product that gives me confidence my pets are getting balanced nutrition.

Better Thank Bank-Breaking Subscriptions

After watching PET FOOLED, the documentary about the unregulated pet food industry, I decided that I'm not going to feed my dog overpriced dry dog food with toxic additives anymore. When I found this I was thrilled because the one danger of making homemade dog food is not getting the nutritional balance right. The recipe takes all of the guess work out of it. Even though it's quite time consuming, it's totally worth it. My English Shepherd (Faye) absolutely loves it and the overall price over time is really not that much more than high end dry food. If you do decide to try this, you should follow the recipe to the letter with no substitutions. If you have an Instant Pot, the process goes much faster. Just be prepared for the fishy stink of the nutrient. It smells awful to me, but my dog couldn't care less. I've tried both chicken and beef nutrient recipes. The beef was super easy to make, but as equally labor intensive as the chicken. If you don't follow the directions and chill the potatoes after boiling and transfer directly to the meat mixture, you basically get Shepherd's Pie! The second batch came out better (see picture). Faye loved both regardless! There are Instant pot instructions for the chicken, but I have up on that after 4 batches. The rice never cooked evenly and the bottom always burned - no matter how much water I added. The most recent batches were made by cooking the meat/veg on the stove and the rice in the Instant Pot. It came out perfect (see picture). Finally, at a recent vet visit, the doctor asked me what I was feeding Faye. I braced myself for a scolding (having watched PET FOOLED) and got the opposite. "That's an amazing product. I even met the vet who created it. Keep doing it!" It's been nearly two months now feeding Faye homemade food. She's lost almost 5lbs (it's also gotten warm enough to swim 4 days a week in Lake Michigan again), she poops a lot less (both in frequency and quantity) and her horrible bad breath is gone! Not better. GONE!

Finally !!

After having several expensive brands of dog food cause issues with my dogs I decided to start making my own. The latest issue being inflammation to my older (7yr pit mix) dog's joints and inability to jump or play without crying and the younger (2yr rottweiler) refusing to eat for days. I found this blend at a local pet store and brought it home to try. I had not made my own food because there hadn't been any credible information on vitamin and supplement amounts. Within 3 feedings the older dog was not crying and by the end of the week she was back to normal. Her skin is looking and smelling better too. The younger dog hasn't missed a meal since. It's a lot of work and not cheap but neither is the vet or time off to take them in. Not to mention all the pills they give you to "fix" the problem that end up harming them with the side effects. Much like people we need to eat ingredients we can pronounce with minimal processing. I hope this continues to work and I can keep the momentum for making it for them.

Like the idea, but

I would prefer one nutrient blend that can be used with a variety of recipes. JustFoodForDogs has several blends, each with its own recipe. It would be more cost effective to offer one blend that can be used with the different recipes they offer.

My dog loves this. I cook the meat, rice, vegetables separately and then mix together.

Small package Big results

My 8-year-old pitbull is Yogi. And he lives up to his name. I prefer this type of food for him. I was surprised at the small size of the package but Yogi enjoyed it so that is the number 1 reason I will purchase this again. I did add beef liver to this but only to make it go further.

Delicious

This was my first JustFoodForDogs recipe attempt. It turned out amazing!! It was so good, I tried it (of course before adding the dog supplement powder and oil). Doggie loved it. Very healthy! I will admit I substituted quinoa for the white rice.

works great!

So my dog is very fussy. He also has a sensitive stomach. Finding a food that he likes and doesn’t upset his stomach has been a challenge. I tired this out of desperation. Well for me it has been a God send. The directions are very simple for me. I make the small batch version. I use my slow cooker to cook the batch and everything comes out cooked. My dog loves this food, and even my finicky cats are extremely curious about this when it comes Out of the slow cooker. My biggest challenge has been finding the giblets. I will definitely buy more, and even though it does take a little time putting it all together the slow cooker does all the work. I also add fresh green beans, chopped, and maybe a sweet potato or a squash just to add fiber and variety.

The food takes some time to make it but the DOGS LOVE IT as much as the frozen that I used to buy. I save quite a bit of money too.....Well worth the time to make it
