I fed my chickens an organic feed produced locally for years, but it became too expensive, as in REALLY expensive, so I switched to this non-GMO feed. Still, it is very pricey but what can you do? With this feed alone, my chicks lay way too many eggs. Like crazy ladies. I don't need that many eggs and try to slow them down by adding significant buckets of just corn or oats (marketed for horses) that I soak in buckets for a few days with a small shot of vinegar with the mother. Still, tons of eggs. So I'd have to say it is a very good chicken feed. You WILL have to supplement with oyster shell. Without, the eggs are too thin. My chickens have a pretty good foraging area, and we raise some seed for them like sorghum and amaranth (with leaves), so it's not like the feed is the only thing they eat, but this is the feed that is always available to them in their feeders.
Chewy saves me time, money, gasoline and I don't have to lug home 50 lb. bags of feed.
I actually was sent this by accident but my chickens love it so i use it to throw in the cage when i need to round them up. It's too expensive to use for daily feed since we have so many chickens but I get it when it's on sale.
The package was busted open and the food is all over the other items and in the box! I want to exchange for the full value of the product.
I started with on bag to see if my chickens would eat this, they seemed to love it. I wonder if the formula has changed since. I ordered two more bags and now they won't touch it. Is it possible to return unopened bags?
Love this product, more important the chickens love this product! They eat it well, almost to well. They eat a lot of it. The end goal is a healthy flock and good eggs. I get both from Kalmbach food. The egg shells are strong and the yokes are a beautiful orange and taste great and my chickens are healthy and happy. My only complaint is these are 50 pound bags. They come in a box that is always destroyed, but I have to say I’ve never had a damaged bag. I just think it might be easier for the carries to handle if the bags were shipped in another bag. It’s obvious the carrier has difficulty because the package is left dropped somewhere in my driveway, wherever they can be dropped out the back of the truck.
I have tried 2 types of this brand of Layer crumbles and they don't like it. I have owned chickens for over 40 years and never seen chickens not like a feed. The first bag of the16% layer crumbles ingredients were completely different on the feed tag than on the chewy description.
Fresh smelling, clean feed & my chicken really like it!! Great product & extremely fast delivery. Great service chewy! Thanks Elizabeth s
Within two weeks of changing to this feed from a TSC organic feed, my egg size increased. The crumbles are clean with very little dust. My only complaint is when I went to reorder it was unavailable, and my local stores don’t carry, they need to special order. Chewy please keep this in stock!!
Since we have been feeding our chickens this feed they seem to like to food and are now laying more eggs.
