Appropriate for use in any type of home. For optimal health considerations, provide a grate to separate pet from soiled litter. Cover floor with loose product to a depth of 1 to 3 inches. At least once per week, remove all bedding and wash enclosure with a mild soap solution. Rinse cage thoroughly with clean water to ensure the removal of soap residue. Here's the positive: if your small pet exclusively uses one bathroom area in their enclosure, this stuff is definitely cozy, soft, and snuggly for their BEDDING AREA ONLY. Now the dirt: This bedding is basically shredded up kleenex. Have you noticed how the dust flies when you pull one out of the box? Well this is 20x worse. (99% Dust free...what lab declared THAT?) DUSTY!!! LIKE, I wanted to wear my N95 when cleaning the cage. After scooping everything out, there was always a big ball of straight up dust left behind. Thought my bunny had dust babies. So... speaking of tissues, have you ever had a job for a paper towel and only had toilet paper? Well, this is what happens to this stuff with liquid waste. It doesn't absorb so much as it just turns to pure mush. Useless. I am a clean freak and keep our bunny's cage scooped daily and deep cleaned weekly. Every day, when I got home from work, I could SMELL the cage like it hadn't been touched in days. Gross, gross, gross. This bedding may be the reason some people will take their small pets to the Humane Society, not knowing any better that their pets actually AREN'T smelly. That's no good. And when you sift to get the little poop pellets out, this stuff clings to itself in a matrix that doesn't allow the pellets to sift out without extra work. All around, horrible stuff. And because of the frequent changes, I'm already getting more bedding a month later, of course, a DIFFERENT kind. … more

So happy I tried this!
By Rachel on Dec 26, 2020
Before I was using the Carefresh rainbow colored bedding and the cage started getting smelly the very next day with only one hamster. I was changing the cage every 5 days because of it. This bedding is so much better! Can hardly notice any smell from the cage after 4 days. This is great! And the hamster seems to be enjoying it more as well, it’s softer and easier to build with. Definitely more absorbent. I’ll buy this from now on!

Depends on your use
By Mumm on Nov 11, 2020
For my use this was a total waste. If you have 1 or 2 animals in a largish enclosure it might be nice. But droppings show up really really well and it does nothing at all for odors. Texture and consistency makes me imagine almost uniformly shredded nice toilet paper. Looks very nice when freshly laid, then just terrible after a few hours when animals mix in droppings, shavings, or hay. For me, I will never buy again and prefer standard shavings that I can’t find at a comparative price on chewy.

Clean & Cozy

This is my review for the natural Kaytee bedding: For me personally, I prefer Kaytee bedding over other brands. Some of the bigger name brands smell worse to me and don’t feel as comfortable. This bedding isn’t perfect (but what bedding is). It does tend to carry a little more dust from the paper than I prefer, but I have seen a lot worse. I also prefer this over wood shavings. I have more peace of mind using this. It seems to be more comfortable, smells better and I don’t have to worry about how it’s treated and such like I would have to if it were wood. I prefer bedding that hasn’t been dyed so this is a better option. This product works the best for my situation. If you have a small cage for your hamster then this bedding is probably going to get stinky pretty quickly and you’ll need to change it out a lot more to avoid that. Mine are in larger enclosures so smell isn’t an issue and this is why I like this bedding. It absorbs well and makes spot cleaning easy. I only recommend this for small rodents though. I do not see this working well for a guinea pig or anything larger than that. I find this reasonably priced. It is a bit expensive, but I like buying from Chewy because it’s slightly cheaper. Overall I recommend this product for anything smaller than a guinea pig. Thanks Chewy for wonderful customer service! I feel like that review could be used here as well. One thing I would like to add is that this white bedding does feel softer than the brown natural bedding and I like that this is white because when it’s soiled you can easily see it and makes spot cleaning so easy! I use mostly the natural but always have at least one bag of this on hand as well. … more

Very cozy bedding
By AnaM on Dec 21, 2020
This is the only bedding I've purchased for my mouse, and he loves it. It's very soft and cozy, and I like that it's white so I can easily see where he's gone to the bathroom when I spot clean his cage. I understand why some reviews say it's dusty- it does leave some residue, but in my experience, it's only been a very tiny amount, and my mouse has never had any respiratory issues.

I like it!
By GuineaPigAndRabbitMom on Nov 25, 2020
I bought a bag of Care Fresh to fill the litter boxes of my rabbit and guinea pigs - and I was NOT impressed. It was clumpy and surprisingly hard for something made out of paper! That lead me to buy a bag of Kaytee Clean & Cozy. I love it. I will not buy anything else now. Yes, it's a bit expensive up front, however it's so worth it in my opinion. It is so soft (I actually called my mom to feel how soft it was when I opened the bag)! I would sleep on it if I could!!! It comes compressed in a decently large bag, and, once you spread it out, it's a lot. I will be buying more in the future. I love it and my pets love it - Thank you Chewy!

Great for snuggling
By Ratmama on Jan 7, 2021
This litter is great, as it helps to control odor and is very absorbent. It also puffs up nicely, and my ratties love to snuggle in it and make beds. A little goes a long way. The only thing is to make sure you put it into a solid pan cage design. Otherwise it tends to get stuck in the wires and is kind of hard to clean.

Good enough for bedding
By Piggyqueen on Dec 7, 2020
Our two piggies like to cuddle in this but not much else. It doesn't really do much for odors, but guinea pigs can't have a lot of scented stuff anyways. Its fairly absorbent and we mostly use it in their litter box that they end up sleeping in. It's main use is to absorb pee.

Okay bedding
By wendye423 on Dec 18, 2020
My hamster likes this bedding and hasn’t had problems with it. Unfortunately it’s rather too dusty and is annoying to work with on my part. I’d recommend wearing a mask and some glasses so it won’t get in your eyes or nose

Best hamster bedding ever!
By EmilyMo on Dec 4, 2020
I've been doing a lot of research on how to healthily care for hamsters, and one thing that's really good for them is A LOT of safe bedding/substrate that they're able to burrow into. This bedding is the best! Paper based, so very sustainable, soft, burrow-able, and absorbent. Also, extremely economical!!!!! Cheap for a lot of bedding!
