What is the size of the Bio-foam?

is this aquarium good for betta fish?

Answer by ChewyMar 31, 2020
This 5 gallon aquarium would be appropriate for a wide variety of fish including Betta Fish, Honey Gourami, various Micro Rasboras, Dwarf Puffer, Dwarf Frog, Clown Killifish, Least Killifish, Dwarf Crayfish, Rosy Loach, Cherry Red Shrimp and Ghost Shrimp.

can a hamster use it

Answer by ChewyMay 23, 2020
This aquarium kit is not designed for hamsters.

Could a small aquatic turtle use this?

Answer by ChewyAug 19, 2020
Turtles need a minimum of 10 gallons of water per inch of shell diameter so even a hatchling turtle the size of a fifty cent piece requires a minimum of 20 gallons. This kit is too small and will not allow a basking light or UVB light, both of which they need.

The tank is beautiful but it's too noisy

Beautiful tank, but its loud af it's so bad. I can hear it all the way in another room such a loud vibration buzzing sound I'm scared it will bother my betta too

Beautiful tank, but its loud af it's so bad. I can hear it all the way in another room such a loud vibration buzzing sound I'm scared it will bother my betta too it's so annoying it's really driving me nuts. If I didn't really need a new tank I would return it tbh. I haven't added my fish yet I'm cycling the tank.

The only thing I can complain about is that the box when I received it was totally bent in words and the little piece that goes cover the filter on top is bent and so it doesn’t fully close, but it’s not that big of a deal overall, the tank is beautiful. It worked perfectly fine Way bigger than what it looks like.

Cute in theory- but terrible in reality

I’ve had so many fish tanks over my life. But this one is honestly the worst I’ve had. And by the time you get it set up and give it a chance you can’t return it. I first set it up and was skeptical because it was LOUD. I’ve had so many tanks and the air pump has been super loud but if you put a towel or something soft underneath it you can’t hear it much. This tank has the filter BUILT INTO the back so you can’t even swap it out with a different one. The water that comes out of the spout on the other side is sooooo loud and aggressive my fish can hardly swim to the top to eat their food. If you have the water at the suggested minimum water line the water spews out like a geyser! And there’s not really any way to adjust the spout so it’ll shoot water right out of the tank. If I have the tank water at the maximum height (which isn’t much of a difference. Maybe an inch higher) the pressure is so aggressive my fish can hardly swim to the top to eat his food, and there’s a gap in the back that he can jump out. He got stuck behind the glass but in where the machine of the pump is. It’s impossible to get him out. I had to dump the entire tank out just to get him out. Poor design, and not much room to change the tank if you want to. (Ie the filter, filter position, water dispense position)

Arrived broken :(

The glass tank is very smashed upon opening. The box was not labeled for fragility and likely got manhandled during shipping.

Easy setup

Great small tank! Great for a single betta fish and has everything but the heater.

Marineland is the high brand for Spectrum Brand, and Fluval is the high brand for Hagen. These have been good tanks for me, yet there are some disadvantages compared to Fluval. * Fluval Flex brand carries replacements parts and also has accessory parts. Marineland, unlike the older Eclipse aquariums have absolutely no replacement parts, and there are a few parts that give out on these tanks. Impeller of the filter, lighting, filter itself, connection of the outflow tube. * The Marineland Portrait inflow opening of water - filter is too large and has no protection for smaller fish getting into the back overflow area, the Fluval has more protection. Fish getting back there is a problem for both aquariums. * The lighting of the Marineland Portrait does not have the options the Fluval has. * The cubical design of the portrait is pretty, yet the amount of square inches on the surface means less fish than the Fluval due to less area for oxygen. * The filters for both of these aquariums are good. * The design of the upper part of the Fluval hides the water line. * The price of the Marineland Portrait is not low enough. I have had some bad experiences with my Portrait tanks, yet the tank overall is good. I am just saying that after having the Flex 9 and 15, one would have a better experience for paying a little more for either Flex sizes. That is my opinion, and it is based on experience of the different models. Both being glass is so much easier to clean than acrylic tanks.

Good tank, bad hardware

Tank itself is nice but the water pump stopped working after two days. The little fan inside that pulls in the water is constantly getting stuck.

the filter broke within a few months

it looks nice but the filter broke after only a few months. I took it apart, cleaned every piece and it didn't help.
