How much would I need to get a good layer in my 10 gallon? Will the 10lbs bag be enough? Thank you.

Answer by ChewyAug 06, 2021
For substrate 1 inch thick, 1 pound of substrate per gallons of tank is recommended (10 gallons tank needs 10 pounds of substrate) For substrate 2 inch thick, 2 pounds of substrate per gallons of tank is recommended. (10 Gallon tank needs 20 pounds of substrate).

Can you place gravel aquarium rocks over top of this?

Answer by ChewyAug 14, 2021
As part of setting up a new aquarium, you can place a different gravel or rocks over the substrate. However, the manufacturer does not recommend placing new gravel or rock over any substrate that has been in a tank already with livestock. Capping off existing substrate with new substrate can cause a new cycle to occur.

If this contains some water conditioner should I still add my water conditioner drops for my beta fish tank?

Answer by ChewyOct 29, 2021
Whether you are setting up a new aquarium or carrying out a partial water change, you need to make the tap water fit for use with a water conditioner. Eco-Planted’s™ has highly porous spherical grains for optimum diffusion performance and contains live Heterotrophic bacteria to rapidly convert fish waste into natural food for your aquatic plants. It establishes a natural biological balance which makes cycling a new aquarium faster and safer.

What are the best options on how to clean this product once in the tank.

Answer by ChewySep 15, 2021
Eco Planted can easily be vacuumed with a gravel vacuum.

Delays

It’s all good the gravel just the delay ruin it but other than that I’m happy that they have that brand for my aquarium.

Black small lava rocks Clouds tank

No soil- just small black lava rocks-difficult to plant live plants in it since they don't to stay put and kept floating to the surface. Otherwise ok for matte black

I, of course, bought this substrate for my fully planted tank, but one of the key aspects of this specific product was that it is in precycled water and most definitely kick-started my tank cycle! I did an entire carpeted bottom, so this substrate was perfect for rooting the carpet plants and gave the roots something to grab onto! I will definitely buy this again.

I would definitely recommend, it fit in my 10 gallon and was thick to plant my plants, although the roots kept sticking out it’s okay. When it arrived it had water in it which I didn’t realize it would when I ordered it. It said no need to rinse out just pour it straight in but the water was green :( Other then that it’s all good :) (FYI: my water is still cloudy bc everything is trying to settle)

Not What I Expected

It's on me for not doing better research before buying. I liked the look of it and fell for the hype in the descriptions. The bottom line is, it's crushed lava rock

It's on me for not doing better research before buying. I liked the look of it and fell for the hype in the descriptions. The bottom line is, it's crushed lava rock. It's inert meaning there's no sort of fertilizer. In the description it rattles off a list of minerals and whatnot, but they only refer to what the rock is made of. It doesn't actually provide those to your tank. The good? I like how it looks and the porous nature provides more surface area for beneficial bacteria. Supposedly, it will draw your fertilizer out of the water column and store it, but I'm not sure about that. The bad? There's no fertilizer or nutrients like advertised. That means you need root tabs for rooted plants. Unfortunately, you need to plant them deep, so you may have to buy more than you need. In my Fluval Spec V, the 10 lb bag only put 1" in front sloping to about 2" in the back. Tank is just under 7" deep. You'll need 2 bags to get enough depth to keep the tabs from leeching into the water column. Speaking of burying things. It was a nightmare to plant in. Plants would not stay. I had to ram them down then push the substrate into place so they wouldn't float way when pulling out my tweezers. If I had to buy again, I probably would get aqua soil from Fluval or ada. Also, as others have mentioned, my bag had leaked all over the box. I called chewy and they said they couldn't expedite shipping for the replacement. Really annoying since the initial order took almost a week. To my surprise, it came next day.
