For dogs over 100 lbs: add 1/2 cup per additional 10 lbs.
Divide the total per day by the total number of times you feed your dog per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information in the chart as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed.
Dry and wet food in combination will help increase the level of water in your dog's diet. If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/2 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.
Transition Instructions
When switching your dog's diet, we recommend that it be done gradually over a 5-7 day period.

This states potato free recipe but lists potato in ingredients? Which is correct ?
Answer by • Jul 21, 2018
This food contains no white potatoes. Sweet potatoes are not the same as white potatoes. They come from a different family, are high in fiber/low in fat, and are a healthier, lower carb alternate to white potatoes. Sweet potatoes also contains large amounts of vitamins A,C,E, B5&6, potassium and manganese (manganese – trace mineral needed for growth, development and metabolism).
Are any of the ingredients sourced from China?
Answer by • Apr 13, 2020
Merrick sources the world's best ingredients from the best producers. Most of their ingredients come from the USA, however, in certain circumstances some ingredients may come from another country (like lamb from New Zealand) to ensure the highest quality possible. Merrick currently works with one trusted partner in China to source Vitamin B, which is an essential nutrient for dogs and cats. Vitamin supplements account for less than 1% (~.02%) of the total raw ingredients (by weight) in their recipes [and Vitamin B, specifically, is less than .01%] but ensure that every single serving of their food gives your pet the complete nutrition they need. Since 2012, they've worked with the same trusted partner to source Vitamin B. They remain the best option for both the supply Merrick needs and the quality they want for this ingredient. They recently opened operations in China, and remain confident in their ability to produce high-quality Vitamin B for their recipes to ensure they are delivering the nutrition that pets need.
Does this product have taurine in the ingredients?
Answer by • Mar 12, 2019
This recipe contains a taurine content of 0.1% minimum. At this time, the manufacturer does not test for guaranteed levels of taurine in their dog food recipes.
Tell me about ancient grain? What does that mean?
Answer by • Nov 07, 2019
Ancient grains are generally defined as grains that are largely unchanged over the last several hundred years such as the Quinoa found in this food.
My dog was smelling the box before I opened it, it's been love at first smell. He's been stoked to eat this (mixed in with his previous food) for the last two days. Unlike all previous dog food bags, I'm actually afraid to leave this one out because he might tear into the bag lol. He's never been that happy about kibble unless I add things to it like meat or broth, or if it's another dog's food. Hopefully it lasts, I think he tends to get bored of the same food. The last food I had been buying was Blackwood adult dog large breed Whitefish Meal & Oatmeal Recipe, he burned out on it to where he ate sparingly.. In time he has developed dry skin. I'm hoping that after 4.5/5 cups a day of this new food, he'll be getting all of the omega he needs and his dry skin issues will start to be reduced, we live in a very dry air climate.

Bag ripped open when delivered
Opened box and bag ripped open, food all over in box. Called Chewy and new bag sent. Opened up this box and guess what? Bag ripped open. Called Chewy and and ANOTHER bag sent. Guess what? When this bag received, it was torn open as well! Partial blame on Merrick for their bag sealing design; major blame on Chewy warehouse workers for mishandling bags as they are packed for shipping (appears they workers rip the bags as they throw the bags about while in the warehouse and into the boxes). Also, have not received a box yet from Chewy where the box was in good shape and properly packed.

My Dogs Refuse to Eat This
I purchased this with high hopes but was extremely dissapointed. Both of my dogs refuse to eat this food. Tjey are not picky eaters at all but will leave this food in the dish all day and whine with hunger. At meal time they get excited to eat and as soon as I put this in the bowl they sniff and walk way. I bought it on sale so maybe it was overposed to heat or past it's expiration (sadly I emptied it into an airtight container and threw the bag out.) I can get them to eat it if I pour broth over it but even then they leave anything not touched by the broth and since I don't know wy they are refusing it don't want to entice them to eat spoiled food. We often switch brands and I have never seen a reaction like this before. All in all a huge waste of money as I have to buy new food and waste an entire bag of $$$ food :(

Allergies Ahoy!
My dogs (9, 5 and 3) have never had skin issues or allergies in their entire lives. We started this food after having some issues with excessive puppy farts on another brand. Well, 2 months in, two dogs are constantly biting their paws and now my oldest has hot spots on his skin the size of baseballs where he has lost hair. I get that each dog is unique, but we have tried many foods in our house with no issue until this!

Save your $$$$
Three large dogs will not eat this dry kibble. After integrating it slowly into the Science Diet kibble they left every puce of this kibble.

Made my dogs sick
The last few 25 lb bags I have purchased have given my dogs bad diarrhea. I thought they had a virus that was making them sick but my vet thought our golden mutt had a stomach ulcer. After a month of chicken and rice, I reintroduced this food with a tiny amount and within a day, my dogs had diarrhea again. I’ve read other reviews of this food stating the same issue.

Better than fancy air dry food
I was feeding my pitbull an expensive air dried food for several months hoping it would help with his skin issues. But when I was laid off I had to find a cheaper option. After lots of research I found this specific recipe of Merrick looked good. Not only is it about a third the price, but his skin is actually better now.

Allergies
I bought this to give my fur babies a variety but now they are breaking out with food allergies and are scratching themselves to the point of bleeding.

Not to our liking
I'm glad I only got a small bag of this food to try. It was just ok as far as my dog liking it. I had to sprinkle raw topper on it to entice him to eat it. That's not a big deal, he's kind of finicky when it comes to eating. But his poop was too soft while on this food. When it was mixed with his previous food it wasn't much of a problem. But by the time I was feeding him just this one it became more of an issue. It was too messy to clean up easily.
