I don't know what is going on with some of these companies whether others are buying them out or are just trying to use cheaper ingredients - but this last batch of canned food I got is NOT GOOD! Very grainy like cement and has started causing my cat to have allergies again. I thought I had found one my cat could finally eat - and their they go again- changing the recipe. I see others also have found the same thing. It is TOO EXPENSIVE to buy food and have to throw it away!
We have three cats. One is 18 years old, one can't have chicken & the other is just flat out picky! This food is great and all 3 cats love it. I bought it when Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Reserve Duck & Green Pea Recipe Wet Cat Food changed their formulation (late 2023). This is much better and lower in cost! Win win!
Merrick says that this is a pate but it's more runny and wet, like cement. There is not always 5 ozs per can either. I weigh out portions for my 4 cats and the last can only had 4.5 ozs in it. The cats seem to like it but I'm hesitant to purchase again due to the inconsistencies.
This used to be a reliably-enjoyed food by my picky cat, and was digested well and also does not smell horrible like some of the other wet cat foods. However, the last batch of LID Duck Pate I bought was all dry and my cat wouldn’t eat it. My cat also now throws up after eating Merrick’s Chicken Pate. Quality control at Merrick is bad and the batch variability is bad. Watch those expiration dates when you get the shipments and write down batch numbers. If you get a shipment out of a far away warehouse (I once had things shipped out of Phoenix AZ to the East Coast), you could get a really old batch. I really wanted to give it 4 or 5 stars, because I want to believe that they will fix the batches. I periodically still order some Merrick to see if I get a good batch-yes it is throwing away money, but sadly there is little other good clean wet cat food on the market (that my cat eats).
Not sure what is up with this batch. I have one cat who especially loves this brand of duck food but isn’t touching this shipment. My other cats aren’t crazy about it either. The texture and smell are also off. Disappointed.
My chicken sensitive cat is much less itchy on this food but for the past few months the consistency of the food varies batch to batch. My cats much prefer the firm pate but some batches have been arriving mushy and paste like. So much that I have to scoop the contents out of the can. I’ve tried ordering from multiple different stores & have the best luck here on Chewy but still getting mushy ones sometimes.
I have tried for years to find a food that really works for my cat. The limited ingredient duck is the only food she can eat without digestive issues. This is hands down the best.
Unfortunately my cat refused to eat this food. I had high hopes but she didn’t touch it.
I don't use the prescription canned food because cats don't like it usually I do use the prescription dry food and he eats it this has helped tremendously with his IBD
I have never seen a pate with such an odd texture. It's both wet and grainy, kind of like cement. My cat won't eat it, she won't smell it, she doesn't even like being in the same room as it. I don't blame her.
