Is this food okay for senior dogs
Answer by • May 20, 2021
This variety is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for Adult maintenance. It would be suitable for seniors however, it would not be suitable for puppies.
Had two dogs that both ate the same food, started ordering from Chewy to avoid schlepping 20+ pound bags from the boutique dog food store every few week. Enrolled it in the Autoship program so we’d not run out. A few months ago we had to put one of the dogs down. The remaining dog eats less than half of what we previously used so I had a unopened bag I would not need. I called Chewy to see if I could return it for a credit on future food purchases. Chewy immediately credited me for the food and advised me to donate the unopened food to a local shelter. Very nice and generous of them. Then the next day flowers and a condolences card arrived from Cheey on the loss of our pet. Very thoughtful and unexpected. Very pleased with Chewy and blown away by their customer centric service and approach.

Merrick Limited Ingredient
So happy to have found this food. Had to switch from another brand. The switch made a huge difference in my dogs health and behavior. Definitely recommend. Just wish there were different flavors

Dog loves it
After an exhaustive search for a dog food with ingredients not in the “red zone” I FINALLY found this limited ingredient dog food. She loves it and her itching has reduced considerably. Very happy and will order again!

Not every Limited Ingredient Food is the Same
For years I had fed my dogs a salmon based different brand food with success until one of them developed a chicken allergy. I tried the Merrick Limited Ingredient lamb recipe and that worked fine. Having been recommended switching out proteins periodically, I next tried the salmon recipe of Merrick Limited Ingredient. This immediately gave both of my Whippets the runs. Unfortunately, Merrick does not offer many choices of proteins of this Limited Ingredient Diet food so I will stick to the Lamb recipe until I find another brand. I am still recommending this item as I stand by the Merrick brand (just not THIS Salmon recipe for my Whippets).

Switched and realized how good it was.
I switched my white poodle to the regular Merrick salmon and she does not stopped licking herself. Her paws are now pink, so is her ear duct and mouth. I didn’t realize how good this limited ingredient food was until I switched it. I’m going back to limited ingredient immediately.

We love chewy, but never buying Merrick dog food again!
I've had my pup on Merrick for about a year now and decided to try the diet version, I opened the bag and it smelt beyond terrible, like burnt fish oil, needless to say I'm switching my dogs food to another, we love you chewy, but this brand is no good,or selling expired kibble or something. It smelt so bad it went straight to the trash, I couldn't have even donated it to rescues I work with, for the best interest of the rescued pups.

Worth every penny
My 6 year old German Shepherd mix has an allergy to chicken. We switch between this formula and the Merrick salmon and brown rice. Both are excellent on quality. He has solid stool every time and loves the taste. Plus it’s smaller bites which works great on the snuffle mat!

safety concern with recent order??
My dog has eaten this food for years, I also weened our puppy onto it about a month ago with vet approval. Each dog loves it & normally devours meals. I’ve been overall happy with the product/quality.
Earlier this week I got my routine autoshipment of two new bags, and neither dog will touch The food from either bag without a lot of coaxing. I am worried that there is something wrong with this particular lot? I am worried that it could make them sick.
I reached out to Chewy customer service to see if there’s been any other issues complaints, none reported so far. But I’m leaving a review in case others experience any issue with any recent bags. Chewy customer service has been great! No complaints there, just concerned about the quality of my recent purchase and wondering if merrick switched formulas or something it’s just wrong with a recent batch.

Expensive, but great quality!
Our German Shepherd has terrible environmental allergies, and sees a Veterinary Dermatologist annually. It was suggested that removing corn, rice, soy, beef, and chicken MIGHT help reduce the expression of some of her symptoms (in addition to the medical regimen already in place), but it’s NOT EASY to find a dog food without these ingredients. Merrick’s makes good quality foods and they offer this variety at a price one expects for their caliber of kibble. It has yet to produce appreciable results in the allergy department, but my girl is relentlessly picky about her dry food and she immediately took to this. Switching over to this food was also a seamless (and speedier-than-normal) process, which is always nice for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
