No cat likes metronidazole, but its efficient when we are dealing with diarrhea from Giardia. As a rescue, being able to get our medications filled by Chewy makes things so much easier to manage for us since once we get a prescription from the vet, its just a matter of ordering and sending out to our fosters for treatment. Plus saves us having to get single dispensed doses for each of the cats in our care when we have to treat multiple at a time.
My cat is on a couple medications and does well with both pills and liquids. He's never had a problem with any of them before and never resists his meds, but the taste of this one in particular is SO BAD that he immediately gags, spits, drools, and tries to run away. It got to a point where he actually threw up immediately after I gave it to him so we've switched back to pill form. Not sure if it's the medicine itself or just the marshmallow flavoring but all in all, a very bad experience. It does help with his IBD, so it gets two stars for that.
I have to say I've never seen that before. I don't think my cat liked it. In fact, I called the vet and told him he literally just ran and was airborne and I could tell it really affected him. So I wish you guys made something that was in dry form so it didn't taste as bad for him
Our 5 year old hated the chicken flavoring and Chewy was fantastic about having me test the marshmallow flavor. Although she still hates she tolerates it slightly better. Thanks for taking the time to make recommendations for me to try with her. Chewy gets 5 stars from me but med didn’t meet pups test.
My cat really does not like the taste of this med (even tho to me it smells like yummy chicken) and drools profusely each time it is given. It has helped greatly with his digestive issues, though, so we will continue to use it.
I am giving this 4 stars for how easy it was for Chewy to verify the prescription from my vets office. Unfortunately my cat just simply won’t take medication it doesn’t matter the form or how I try to get him to take it.
I can only speak for my experience. but my cat violently split it out and would not swallow it. So therefore, in our case, it was a lot of wasted money.
I adopted 2 kittens who were diagnosed with giardia and prescribed this med; same exact strength, just different doses. I knew it was going to be a struggle after reading all the reviews here. When the 2 bottles arrived, I tried mixing the meds into a bit of Churu treat, which failed immediately. I then switched to canned tuna. One ate the medicated tuna no problem whatsoever, but the second one wouldn't touch theirs. Instead they were very eager to eat their brother's tuna. After a couple of failed attempts with the second cat, I gave both cats meds out of the same bottle and they both ate! This continued for a week. Second cat lost interest in tuna around Day 4, so I mixed in a bit of chicken baby food and that got him back. I did call the Chewy Pharmacy to notify them of the inconsistency in the meds. They asked me to check the lot numbers and it turns out the 2 bottles had 2 different lot numbers. That's not an excuse for the inconsistency, they said, and offered to replace or refund the meds. It was honestly a great customer service experience. Still giving 3 stars because these meds should have been exactly the same and they weren't, which is an error in their process that needs to be fixed. There's no telling who else this may have happened to. What if I had received 2 bad bottles? Buyer beware.
Couldn't get it past his nose
I found out my crew had Giardia so needed to med 9 cats between my own and foster cats- a couple feral. Metronidazole is the worst oral med to give, notoriously the most bitter med that causes immediate foaming and distrust. After reading bad reviews on the chicken I took a chance on the beef and it’s been magic. I have mixed it into food, and everyone devours it licking their dishes clean. This is truly a god send. Can’t recommend enough.
