I think my cage arrived in 2 days, super fast. I got the double critter nation, I love it, my rats love it. It's huge and roomy and so easy to clean. Because of the way the doors open and the trays pull out it makes it so much faster and easier. This cage is heavy and made of good material. I'll probably never have to buy another one. Thank you!
Just the best. Perfect cage for rats of all sizes. Plenty of opportunities to customize the cage, bars not wide enough for babies to get out of. The front opening doors are probably the best feature, making are and maintenance easy. Nothing wrong with hit at all. Heavy as all heck, but well made. If i could want for anything it would be a deeper bedding tray than what is available.
Love the design of this cage and it was pretty easy to put together. Some of the bottom rails were not completely straight so when putting together just needed to use a rubber mallet to hit it into the Aline’s holes but otherwise I would highly recommend this cage. I am useing it for rats and no worries about bar spacing it’s perfect.
The cage is at first glance very well constructed, it goes together nicely and my two female rats love it. Definitely invested in the urine/splash guards strictly because they only like to mark at the sides of the tray and it goes on the floor :/ This cage is great for box-trained animals. I also love the door. However upon exam I can definitely see how this cage could rust easily if kept in a damp environment, especially if scratched, the coating on the metal is rather cheap and pretty easy to scratch. Cage design is great and construction is nice for the price, but it is not meant to be beat on. The line of accessories that go with this cage is also handy.
I love this cage & my ratties love it! It is easy to put together, fairly easy to clean, easy to decorate & you can fit the large concrete mixing bin in the bottom so you can add the appropriate amount of bedding needed for rats.
I ordered this with the intent of getting 2 rats. Even with the shelf, there is ample space for my hammocks, hides, and tubes. I have two main complaints, though. 1. One of the tabs for inserting the roof of the cage was bent so far out of shape that I couldn't slot it in perfectly. However, the tabs that were in place were sufficient enough to keep the roof on, though it is a little slanted. 2. The base of the cage is very shallow. Since rats like to burrow, I will need to assemble or purchase a different, deeper tray to fit the bedding in without it being kicked out of the cage and onto my floor. Otherwise, the quality of the cage feels sturdy. Assembly was easy, but it's a little tricky to assemble solo, and I would recommend working with another person to put it together. No extra tools were REQUIRED for assembly, but it was easier with a screwdriver. All in all, for the price, I wish the metal tab wasn't bent out of place. Likewise, I wish MidWest had different trays for this size to accommodate animals that burrow. That said, the cage feels sturdy and I don't think my rats will be able to escape.
There are still no real competitors to the critter nation in terms of quality and size to price point, but do be prepared to have a rubber mallet (or normal hammer wrapped in a towel) handy. Fantastic for a wide array of small critters, and very modular. Sometimes things go very badly with shipping (or perhaps at the warehouse?) and ending up with an unusably bent item, but Chewy customer service is helpful in that regard if the cage is too beat up to be functional.
The best cage for chinchillas hands down. I'd recommend pairing it with fabric covers for the plastic trays.
I’m using it for my rat, he can’t climb due to his physical attributes (aka lack of hands) so a wider cage suits him great. He LOVES it and I do too! Bottom had nice storage for all animal needs. Opens pretty easy. I will say it was a real pain to put together (especially at midnight) but it was totally worth the money!
I foster for a local rescue and sometimes need to take in more than one litter at a time. These cages are great places to keep litters isolated from each other until they have been tested, dewormed, etc., and are ready to be together. They're also wonderful for incoming kittens, particularly ones from outside locations, to have a safe but contained space while they transition from a colony or mom to rescue. Lots of room for little kittens to run around, and litter box can be on a different floor from food, preventing contamination of food and water. Easy to put together, though you will need two people to do it. But instructions are clear and very helpful.
