The general rule of thumb for rat cage size is at least 2 cubic feet of space per rat. This cage can hold around 3 to 4 rats.

Are the shelves metal or plastic? Our chinchilla chews through the plastic shelves so looking for something more durable

I absolutely love my Critter Nation cage! The quality is outstanding it feels very sturdy and secure, which gives me peace of mind for my chins. The spacious design makes it easy for them to move around, explore, and play, and I really like that the shelves and ramps are adjustable so I can set it up however works best. Cleaning is super simple thanks to the wide doors and removable trays. It’s definitely worth the investment, and I can tell it will last for years. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a safe, roomy, and well built home for their little ones!

This habitat is huge, which is great and also annoying. The black trays come out easily and are easy to wash. You can separate the upstairs from downstairs which is great when you need to keep critters separate or contain them while you're cleaning the other side. We've used other habitats and had trouble with the doors opening or the wire spacing being too big. This one is great for both of those issues. It's heavy and took some work to put together, but is easy to move on the wheels once it's together.

Difficult assembly

It was very difficult to assemble this cage and I had to use a hammer to get pieces to fit together at times. I still feel like it leans to one side. It is a good

It was very difficult to assemble this cage and I had to use a hammer to get pieces to fit together at times. I still feel like it leans to one side. It is a good size for my rats, though, and I like how the shelves have spaces to hang things on the bottom of them. I wish the ramp covers were fleece, though, because one of my rats chewed right through it.

I’ve already had the cage with two other stories and I was making my cage three stories tall and I absolutely love how this cage you expand it. I’ve seen others

I’ve already had the cage with two other stories and I was making my cage three stories tall and I absolutely love how this cage you expand it. I’ve seen others take the wall off and make it side-by-side larger. I specifically use this cage for chinchillas the only thing I wouldmention is the floor is easily to be put upside down and then your Kind of screwed because it’s a tight fit.
