MidWest products never disappoint!
I have been a fan of MidWest products for over 35 years. I was a dog breeder, of Golden Retrievers, for 25 years. I really like these crate mates. The color is perfect, as it blends in with any decor in my home. I purchased two mats, one for the kitchen and another for the TV room. As I lifted the box to bring it inside, I thought to myself, well this is kinda heavy, for two thin crate mats, hmmm? As soon as I opened the box, I understood why. The bolsters are thick, 3 to 4 ". The bottom where my dog lays is probably 3/4 of an inch. Which I think is plenty for spring, summer, and fall months. For my Standard Poodle these are thick enough for year-round use, as he gets hot. Although the backing isn't slide-proof, it does have in each corner elastics that you can put the corners of the crate into. It also has two tabs on each of the short sides, but I'm not sure what they would attach to at this point. They look well made, wait, I'm going to wash one of them right now! Okay, I washed it on a 30-minute warm cycle. It dried in the dryer in 15 minutes! It came out looking great, and washing it took away that new fabric smell. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. I just wish I had ordered the 36-inch instead or the 42" as they are going on the floor and not in his crate.
Better than basic crate mat
I bought this to replace an old and many times washed similar designed crate pad. This MidWest mat is much better designed. First, the mat is quilted across the area that the dog will lay on - this is important as it will prevent the fill from shifting over time, especially if washed (this was the only reason for replacing my old pad - the inside was not quilted and the filling became lumpy). Second, this mat has elastic bands underneath at the four corners so, depending on how your crate is designed, the mat can be secured to the crate pan. If your wire crate does not have floor pan and the mat is placed directly on wire, the wire can be felt through the pad, so you will want something else either under the pad (which would be best as it would keep the wire from cutting into the pad over time), and/or another pad or blanket on top to cushion your dog. I actually bought two, but found I only needed to replace one crate pad, so the other is on the floor and the pups are happy using it there as well.
Comfortable and soft
We got this mat because it was advertised to perfectly fit our crate, which it did. The mat itself sheds a bit, which is no big deal because the dog sheds more. But our 7mo old German Shepherd absolutely obliterated this thing, twice. There are seams on the bottom for pups to get their teeth on and he pulled them apart and got the stuffing out. Because it gently lays on the crate and is not super snug, he was able to pull it out and whip it around. If you have a docile dog I would 10/10 recommend. Not for a chewer.
Not worth it!
The white mat is not the same material as the other two colors, and it's very stiff and not soft at all. If your pets have that ritual of scratching around before they find a spot to lay down, this will get ruined in an instant! After one use (and only a few seconds of scratching), it started to pill and shed. I also had to put a blanket down because the material is quite rough. For what you're getting, this should be a $5 item at most.
Cheap and useful
I bought 2 small cinnamon colored ones for my litter of kittens to put in the bottom of their carriers, but they get a lot of use just laying around on the floor of their kitty room. Cheapest faux fur out there, but the mat is firm and holds shape and doesn't fold and they love them and use them for napping and playing. Minus one star for shedding, no big deal though these things are great for the price. Haven't tried washing them, will probably do that by hand when the time comes. When they get ugly I'll use them to stuff an old pet bed cover (looks like a small pillowcase with a zipper) that lost its filling awhile ago. Does the job.
Nice but wrong size
This was supposed to be the size that goes in the carrier I got from chewy but it's too small. The quality seems good but it slides around in the carrier so worthless to me . Had to order a larger one and try again. You are better off with larger than smaller in a carrier as it will end up on top of your pet.
Good Value, Meh Quality
This bed was good for the month that it was used for my new puppy. He loved it and seemed to think it was comfy. It’s definitely good for the price, however you get what you pay for. The quality isn’t the best and there were a ton of little fuzzies all around, which I dealt with and picked up as I saw them, but when I washed it in the washing machine according to its provided wash instructions, it nearly fell apart and there were those fuzzies everywhere in mass amounts and it became too much of a hassle. Again, good bed for the price but I would invest the money in a better bed for a little more money.
We needed something for additional padding in our dog's car carrier. This was something that I tried on a lark and it was a great buy! My puppy seems to like it. It washes up well and, if something happens and I have to throw it away, it's not the end of the world.
Good quality, but not thick in the middle
Out of the two crate beds purchased. This one is good and well made but my dogs do not care for it as it is a bit in the thinner side inside the middle area where they would lay. I am going to replace it if I find a different one.
Great for an older dog
My boy loves this mat! Since he is older and has back leg issues, he was having a hard time negotiating a stuffed bed. This was perfect for him because he could get on it without losing his footing and not have pain doing it. It is warm and he loves the bolsters for his head. I highly recommend this bed.
