What is the general size of the pieces?

Answer by ChewyMay 31, 2022
This calcium supplement is a mix of fine and small 'pebble-like' textures. The fine particles provide an immediate calcium supply while the coarse particles provide a slower, steady calcium release. A mix of fine and coarse provides a consistent calcium release into the hen’s bloodstream overnight providing strong eggs. Oyster shell alternative blend of fine and coarse untreated calcium carbonate (CaCO) mined from limestone.

Great product but pricey

This is a lot more expensive than some oyster shell products but my hens seem to like it and it does the job for nice strong eggs

Oyster Shell is a hit with the girls!

One of my hens was laying eggs with thin shells that kept cracking. After researching, I discovered it was due to a calcium shortage. I purchased this product, added it to their food, and sprinkled some around. Although they didn't devour it like mealworms, it made a significant difference. No more thin-shelled eggs since then! Definitely a worthwhile purchase, and a little goes a long way.

Good source of calcium

I like to feed my chickens calcium, and it is more cost effective to purchase a bigger bag. It does its job well.

Chickens don't like it. Smells moldy.

I bought this about six months ago. My chickens much prefer oyster shell and I end up cleaning this out because they don't go through it. It smells moldy. I wouldn't

I bought this about six months ago. My chickens much prefer oyster shell and I end up cleaning this out because they don't go through it. It smells moldy. I wouldn't think calcium would smell at all. Stick with oyster shell. I regret this purchase.

We ordered this when we couldn't find oyster shells anywhere. It just seems like the hens don't go through it as fast as the oyster shell and we had one start to get soft eggs. I am sure this is because she wasn't eating this. I now provide this mixed with oyster shells, so the less picky hens can eat this and the picky one can have oyster shells.

Your frying pan will thank you!

I started to notice that some of my flocks eggs were a little softer than when they first started laying and i read online that it might be because they have a calcium deficiency. Purchased some of this and within a week their eggs were stronger and omg i really think you can taste the difference. They've also started to lay on a more regular basis, so i definitely think there was less calcium than they needed in their diet. overall very happy and i'll buy more when i run out!

Chickens refuse to eat it.

The description says a mixture of medium and fine granules, but what I received was a chumpy powder like consistency. My chickens refuse to eat it.
