About how long would this bag last for 5 chickens?

Answer by ChewySep 05, 2022
Plan on a hen eating about 1/3 pound of feed every day. This amount will depend on many factors including access to free-range pasture, weather and occasionally breed type.

Over the years, I have tried a lot of different feed. Scratch and Peck is by far their favorite. Yes, it's more expensive than most feeds (especially when you're not buying wholesale) but when you consider the quality of the feed and having a lot less waste because they love it so much, for me, it's worth it. It's also great feed to ferment.

The Best, Ask the Chickens

This is the ONLY chicken feed my girls will eat! I tried replacing it with nearly identical product and they threw the seeds everywhere in protest until I replaced with a new bag of this feed. I love that it is whole grains and full of good stuff for them. Apparently, they do too.

poor quality

The last bag of Scratch and Peck purchased was 16% mash. It was terrible! Mainly peas and gravel, where's the quality control? We thought maybe the 18% mash

The last bag of Scratch and Peck purchased was 16% mash. It was terrible! Mainly peas and gravel, where's the quality control? We thought maybe the 18% mash would be better than the 16%, so we tried another bag (18%). I was wrong. The chickens don't like it, they are wasting 50% of the daily feed. Is there any quality control with this company? Too much large gravel (mini-boulders that grind the grain down to dust (what is the company thinking?), so frustrating. Just one of the issues.

Quality feed, smells wonderful

My chickens love this food, and it smells like a delicious Italian bakery when you open the bag. Soo many good herbs and nutrients

Not bad.

My chickens and ducks don’t prefer this type of feed but they will eat it if there’s nothing else in their bowl.

Quality food for my chickens!

My layers love this feed and it helps them to keep their egg production up.

I have been ordering scratch and peck organic layer feed for 3 years now and have noticed over that years that more and more gravel has been in the mix. At first I figured it was just how it came out in the commercial bagging but it it’s too much gravel (my chickens free range) I will be looking for another organic feed that is heathy and not full on weighty filler

Seems like there are good and bad batches. Not sure what’s going on but I buy a couple bags and it’s good grain and the next time it’s mostly dust. My chickens have had grown up on the starter, grower, and layer for 3 years. 24 chickens and I’m starting to buy other brands now that seem more consistent.
