My 14 year old cat wasn't eating much and was losing weight. His veterinarian suggested Mirtazapine appetite stimulant every other day. Within several hours, he was eating his food, and looking for more! The compounded capsule was so small, I was easily able to give it to him without a pill pocket. Thank you Chewy!

Our vet recommended compounded mirtazapine to help stimulate my dog's appetite (13yo male yorkie - 4.5lb) after he was sick for a few weeks. The price was great, and it did work to increase his appetite for a few days. However, I noticed he would get very drowsy after his breakfast and sleep for most of the morning and early afternoon. It seemed to take a while to work itself out of his system, and he only became more alert later in the day. After a few days, the appetite-stimulating effect wore off completely, and we had to go back to Entyce, which I think works better for dogs and doesn't have the same sedating side effect. While the price was excellent, it just wasn't the right fit for us.

Good medicine

I got these compounded in 2 mg capsules. That's the same dosage as the gel you wipe inside their ear. So far, they're working very well.

Mirataz is better for my cat

I like that each capsule has an accurate single dose which is a huge improvement over cutting the tablet form. The capsules are small enough for pilling, however I'm not good at pilling my kitties. It is too big for using a pill pocket. Opening the capsule and disguising the medication in Churu or butter didn't work. It must have a strong scent that my cat picks up on. If you can pill your cat this could be a good option though. Also discuss treating nausea with your vet since you wouldn't want to stimulate appetite if your cat is nauseous too. The transdermal version; Mirataz worked better for me and my cat. It's easy to apply to the inner ear every few days. The downside to the transdermal is that the tube expires 30 days after opening it, whereas the capsules have a longer shelf life of a few months or so. Chewy pharmacy has been great. I had several prescriptions that I fill for the last few years. However, never wait until the last minute to order because filling an RX is more involved than ordering general pet supplies. The order could get held up if the RX needs vet approval. Usually I'll call my vet to check on it, and then call Chewy to make sure they receive it. Also the package could get delayed or lost. Play it safe, and keep enough on hand.

My cat Ivory is 16.8 years old and is experiencing Chronic Kidney disease and we needed an appetite stimulate in order to help him retain weight. I recommend the PILLS versus the ointment. The ointment is very expensive $44+compared to the pills at .55 cents each. I use half a pill, bringing his dose down to .27 cents. The ointment burned his ears and left scabs which made his ears extremely sensitive.

I was assured by customer service that these capsules would fit into a pill pocket. I have a cat who can't be pilled in any other way. These capsules are so large they protrude from both ends of a Greenies. You cannot take them apart and transfer to a Greenie. My cat will not eat Churu with the contents mixed in, as my vet says "even a dead cat will eat Churu, so this must taste particularly vile. My error, but only two days after my 1st order, I was sent an email from Chewy saying my vet had approved the prescription and they were waiting on me to purchase. Instead of double checking, I placed the order assuming that my first attempt had failed. So now I have 60 of these, for me, useless capsules.

Bigger than I had hoped

These were larger than I thought such a small dose would be and they're hard to get down my cat. Ordering the tablet and cutting them instead.

I have a 17 year old car who is in good health but goes off food occasionally. This stuff literally saved his life after he quit eating and i had resorted to force feeding him. After taking him to the vet and not finding any reason why he should be off food, I requested an appetite stimulant and something for nausea. They both worked like a charm and he was eating agaim in less than 8 hrs. Now I have a few to keep on hand in case he goes off food again.
