About Modesto Milling

Modesto Milling was established in 1974 as a dairymen’s co-op. In 1997, a group of local dairymen convinced the Board of Directors to start manufacturing organic dairy grain mixes. By January 1998, Modesto Milling gained its organic certification from Oregon Tilth of Salem, Ore. They became the first organic grain processor in Central California, and ever since, Modesto Milling has been manufacturing high quality organic feed for many different types of livestock.

Did not smell good

Didn’t smell good dry, and if I tried to ferment it it completely stunk. And my chickens didn’t want to eat it. They would just leave it and forage for anything

The Alfalfa Pellets with Whole Grain is a Hit

After reading all the reviews, I wondered if the alfalfa pellets would get scooped out, but my hens seem to love them. My hens are already familiar with pellet feed,

After reading all the reviews, I wondered if the alfalfa pellets would get scooped out, but my hens seem to love them. My hens are already familiar with pellet feed, so that might have been the reason they adapted so quickly. There does seem to be a lot of dust that builds up in the feeders over the course of a few weeks. I saved the dust to make up a couple batches of fermented feed which was a big hit, and helped to give them a few extra days of feed without needing to throw away the dust. I use a combo of different feeds due to availability issues in our area and am glad that I have added this to our list of options. The price is a bit more than I want to spend on feed, but the hens are eating this feed, it's not a feed that they scoop out onto the ground for the mice, and their egg production went up a little over the course of the first bag.
