By January 1998, Modesto Milling gained its organic certification from Oregon Tilth of Salem, Ore. They became the first organic grain processor in Central California, and ever since, Modesto Milling has been manufacturing high quality organic feed for many different types of livestock.

I ordered this product as a supplement for my miniature horse "Prince William" who is prone to laminitis. We have to soak his hay to remove any sugar content, (even during the cold Northeast winters) so judging by the ingredients, this seemed like a great addition to his daily diet . He's currently recovering from stomach issues so now is not the time to introduce something new. I'm excited to feed this to him when I'm confident he's fully recovered at which time I'll update this review.

I was excited to try this feed, though I wasn't thrilled that it has garlic in it, as garlic is toxic to horses. As it's an alfalfa pellet with additives, I thought I should soak it, and due to the small pellet size it softened almost instantly, which was great. But none of my three fat, greedy, eat-anything warmbloods would touch it. They sniffed it and wanted nothing to do with it. One finally took a bite, spat it out, and ran around the stall with his mouth open for several minutes. I asked my boarder if I could give it to her two pasture retirees, and they both loved it-- slurped up every bit. And my boarder thought it improved their condition in only a week. So, if your horse likes it, it appears to be beneficial. But mine voted 'no.'

I selected this product because I have a horse with Insulin Resistance (IR). I need a mash for her powdered supplements and balancer which she does not like to eat. This feed was perfect. She literally finished it at one seating instead of picking at it or refusing to eat it. The ingredients are perfect for a horse with special dietary requirements. I will definitely be purchasing this product as her long term feed.

One of my horses is an easy keeper so I feed him a low starch/low sugar grain supplement. When I received this brand I checked the label to compare the two and was surprised to see that starch and sugar levels were not listed. One horse ate it like normal and the other shook his head reacting to a different taste in his normal grain. It's pricey and I would need more information about the sugar and starch levels.

I own a 29 year old Arabian mare. She has Cushings disease and can’t have sugars or carbs. She’s not able to graze on grass because of the sugar. I have to watch the grain and hay she receives. This grain is great for a Cushings horse. Low sugar and carbs, great for filler for older horses. I hand fed my horse a handful and she loved it. Great product

Love this grain. Since it is rich in proteins, vitamins, and minerals while remaining low in calories it makes a great all around food. Best part is all four of my horses liked it! The 20 year old mare and 5 month old colt enjoyed it making it easy to feed. I like that this is low sugar and has vitamin E for their coat and hooves. I also like the small pellets which makes it easier to mix supplements if needed.

I was very excited to receive this product! The ingredients are pure and looked like a great option for my horses who have metabolic issues as I have to watch what they eat. Unfortunately night one of the horses that could benefit the most from it would eat it. Even dressed up in other grain - which defeats the purpose. I am not sure why the refused it. I thought it smelled fresh and earthy. Sorry my horses are so picky.

I am so tickled to get horse feed. It is expensive to feed my old men. The feed came late last night and the FedEx man unloaded it into my container before I saw the grain. Honestly, I could not tell the difference between my other grain and I would be lying if I would send a picture and it were the other grain. Again, I apologise.

At first my horse was unsure when I added this to his food. He nodded his head up and down after each bite. Now he is gobbling it up. The pellets are small and easier for an older horse like he is. It seems like good quality feed.
