My chickens of multiple ages love this scratch. I throw it into an area for them to scratch around every morning and they follow me like puppies and eat every bit of it. While they do prefer corn and will completely pick it out of any food that has it mixed into it, they actually eat all of the ingredients in this scratch.
My hens ate the few sunflowers out of this and nibbled at a couple of other things, but mostly wasted it. It's very powdery and not worth the price.
We are newer chicken owners. (Just hit 1 year this month!) We try to buy only organic foods for our birds. After all, they make us Food every day!! Amazing. Our chickens love this scratch and we love that all the unnecessary and harmful ingredients have been omited from this particular scratch. We also lacto ferment the scratch to make it even better for our birds.
The images associated with this item are conflicting. THe first shows a bag of layer pellets, identical to Chewy's "Modesto Milling Organic, No Corn, No Soy Layer Pellet Poultry Feed By Modesto Milling." However, the title of this item is, "Modesto Milling Organic, Non-GMO & Non-Soy Scratch Chicken Treats," and the second and third images show scratch. I was sent layer pellets, so I'm about to initiate a return.
Appalled that for the second time ordering chicken feed (different name brands) that I received a bag that was broken. The feed spilled in the box and I had a mess on my hands not to mention waste. This time, however, I know this could have been avoided as the bag had already been patched before being send.
My chickens love this it’s well balanced with plenty of black sunflower seeds and those little red seeds they love
Nice that is Organic. I feed my chickens EB LAYER CRUMBLES too. I sell my eggs as Organic fed Free Range. Their TREATS are bananas, leafy lettuce, Spinach, MEALWORM DELIGHT no melt SuetDough, Peanut Butter Suet Balls, and Milk. I use FLUKERS GOURMET GRASSHOPPER S in can for a TRAINING tool. $1 per can. IN MY FLOCK - 3 PLYMOUTH ROCKS, 1 GOLDEN CAMPINES, 10 WHITTING TRUE BLUES, & 1 WILD BOURBON RED TURKEY RESCUE. The Fluckers I only use on FREE RANGE totally worth buying. Campines and Turkeys have. Their own mind. Harder to control. It’s like chocolate to a child. They love them. This SCRATCH is nice, they like it, I wouldn’t say they go crazy for it or it should be used to replace food. Being Organic and GMO FREE for this price is Great. Definitely will but again.
My hen Sassy, short for Sacajawea, is 18 yrs old, yes, 18 yrs. I have had her since she was 3 wks old and have only fed her good food, fresh greens, no hormones or chemicals. She loves this scratch. With other scratches she picks out only parts of it to eat and flings the rest aside with her beak. With this scratch there is almost no waste as she eats most of it; she even gets excited now when I open the feed bin to get her food. Many mornings I put her bowl up in her coop (breakfast in bed) as she doesn't come down from her roost now until 9 a.m. If you have a picky eater I definitely recommend this scratch. It is the best I have found so far. Unfortunately, her photo will not load.
I like that this is organic, but the darker red seeds are left untouched by my girls. They comprise about a third of the volume, so overall, not a good deal for me.
