It's chicken grit

Some larger pieces and some smaller pieces. I sift out the larger stuff for the little ones and tried giving to the larger chickens but they prefer the smaller size

Some larger pieces and some smaller pieces. I sift out the larger stuff for the little ones and tried giving to the larger chickens but they prefer the smaller size too. I'll crush the larger pieces a little smaller so there's no waste. The chunks are not huge but my chickens are still young and just may not understand what to do with the big pieces. I'll probably repurchase when I run out unless a friend recommends a different brand

I don’t raise poultry, but I garden in pots. UK gardening channels that I watch were always talking about grit, obviously not the sort served for breakfast, but I didn’t know what it was or where I could get some. It is tiny, sharp pieces of granite. In potting soil, or the ground, I would think, it improves drainage. It is sold in three sizes, for chickens to swallow. They need it in their crops in order to process food. Do NOT buy the type which is combined with food or whatever; that is only for chickens, not for soil.
