my dog is less than 20 lbs. How much of this should I give my dog.

Answer by AnneJun 24, 2025
According to the instructions: give 1 capsule for dogs weighing 10-19lb. For dogs weighing even less than that, I give them every other day.

How much DHA/EPA each capsule. Vet wants 3500-4500 daily. Unable to find in additional info

Does this contain “other ingredients” like peppermint or lemon or other additives that are often in fish oil capsules for humans?

This capsule version seems less potent than the liquid for small dogs? The epa/dha is less and the dosing is different when figuring it out for an5 lb dog. So the capsules have more omega threes but less dha and epa?

Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2018
The Nordic Naturals oil supplement is 2.3 times more potent in EPA, DHA, and Omega-3's than these soft gels when comparing the serving size for every 20-lbs of body weight.

This product is very effective at keeping dry skin and excess shedding away. Bo Buchman used to have a lot of white flakes, now he only gets a few if weather is subzero for several days (gas furnace=dry heat). I give them to Doxie too. It’s very expensive as the recommended daily dosage is 3 capsules, times 2 dogs. 180 capsules is a 30 day supply for us. I still will purchase since it is a product that performs very well.

Dog doesn’t like taking them

Haven’t had my dog on these very long so can’t speak to any benefits of the product yet. But delivery of the pill is an issue, he’ll usually eat meds if I toss them

Haven’t had my dog on these very long so can’t speak to any benefits of the product yet. But delivery of the pill is an issue, he’ll usually eat meds if I toss them in his wet food. But these he leaves at the bottom of the bowl, or if he gets one is his mouth he spits it out on to the rug so I have to take the soggy capsule and put it in his mouth until he swallows it. I’ll be trying the oil bottles from this brand next time instead and put it directly on his food since that’d probably be easier for us

i have tried many omega supplements, low smell, all liquids. got these as a last resort for dogs under 20 lbs. i would have a hard time swallowing these pills, jsut be aware. they are easily 1.5 inches and thick. when i reread instructions they said to pop the capsule and apply to food for smaller dogs which negates the whole purpose of the bottle. if i wanted to use liquid form i would buy a bottle of that. deceptive advertising as they say its for small to large dogs on label.

High-Quality Fish Oil I Trust

I did a lot of research and read countless reviews from different sources before buying a fish oil for my dog (yes, I even made an Excel spreadsheet!), and Nordic Naturals Omega-3 kept coming out on top. I first used the liquid version when my dog was a puppy. He ate it just fine, though it did smell a bit fishy when using the dropper. Now that he’s two years old, I have been giving the capsule form for one year. I still feel really good about giving him this product knowing it’s one of the best fish oils available. The capsules are on the medium-to-large side, but my 90-lb Lab has no problem with them. I mix one full capsule into his food once a day. It provides all the nutrients I was looking for based on research. Since I don’t puncture the capsule, there’s no fishy smell I am aware of. As another plus, there are no fishy burps. I also love the quality and sourcing. The fish come from Norway, are processed within hours of being caught, and then encapsuled in California.

I didn't mind paying more for this item than my usual Image 3 capsules since there are more in the bottle. However, I checked the dosing instructions and I'm supposed to give three a day instead of the one I have been giving. That makes the price very uneconomical.

Maybe

Maybe it's helping their body on the inside, but I got it to try and help with skin and shedding and the shedding has not decreased. Pretty expensive for something

I have a pit-mix and knowing how prone they are to skin issues, I started her on a fish oil supplement before any occurred. I dislike the pump-style fish oils so I was thrilled when I found these softgels - no spills, no oily hands, no fishy dog breath. My dog thinks they're treats! So far, no skin issues and her coat is soft and healthy looking.

I’ve been a big fan of Nordic Naturals for many years. I have been giving these to all of my pooches over the years and they have all had amazing, shiny coats and healthy skin. This brand has very strict quality control standards. I’m so confident that they don’t use low quality fish (mercury poisoning) that I take their human version daily.

Easily given in food

Beckett is as old as the hills; he was rescued in 2019 at age 9 to 11, so that makes him who knows how old now. He's got all the "old dog things" including dementia and arthritis. He was a street dog in Mexico and spent many years of hard living there so the more I can do to support him as he ages, the better. This supplement is easily delivered in his food (he will eat it even without the food because he was a Hoover in a past life). I feel good about him getting these essentials fatty acids, and he gets them daily. Chewy is a company I feel proud to use as it gives back to the community, and that just adds to the pleasure I feel when I purchase this product for our little-old-man-dog.
