Why doesn't Dasuquin contain manganese, like the Cosequin capsules? If I switch from Cosequin to Dasuquin, should I give my cat a manganese supplement?

Answer by HilaryOct 25, 2023
The previous answer may be misleading. Yes, Dasuquin Advanced does contain manganese, but this product is the original Dasuquin. Dasuquin Advanced is apparently only available from veterinarians. Combining one capsule of Dasuquin and one capsule of Cosequin may be a way to try and get the benefits of the added ingredients of the Dasuquin while still getting manganese from the Cosequin. (From what I can find, purchasing one bottle of Dasuquin and one bottle of Cosequin is cheaper than one bottle of the Dasuquin Advanced.) Just an idea if money is tight.

Why is there color dyes in this?

The label calls these "sprinkle capsules." Does that mean I will be able to open the capsule and sprinkle the contents on my cat's food? I'm sure he won't take regular capsules, so this could be a great solution.

Answer by ChewyFeb 08, 2019
The capsule that's used for this supplement is able to open so you can sprinkle it on your pet's food.

The directions say to give 2 capsules per day for cats 10+ lbs for the INITIAL 4-6 WEEKS. What do i give after the initial 4-6 weeks?

Answer by ChewyFeb 13, 2019
For cats under 10 pounds, feed 1 chew daily in the initial feeding and 2 chews for cats over 10 pounds in the initial feeding. After the initial feeding period, feed 1 chew every other day for cats under 10 pounds and 1 chew daily for cats over 10 pounds.

Dasuquin helps my cat's hips be nearly painfree. Her arthritic hip is not sensitive when petted and she does not limp. I empty the capsule and mix it in her morning canned food. I haven't tried it in her kibble. I saw a significant difference in her hip's tenderness when I started her on this a few years ago. I glad my vet's assistant told me about this!

My elderly, arthritic, rescue cat has been getting monthly injections of Solensia for his arthritis. He hates the vet and the car ride and I hate making him so miserable every month. Instead of the injections, I am now giving him Dasuquin twice a day. So far, he is doing just as well - perhaps better. This is a win-win: no monthly vet visits for him, and lower cost of treatment for me!

Good joint supplement

While getting my cat to eat it consistently was difficult, I did notice an improvement in her mood and mobility. I gave it to her everyday for the full 6 weeks recommended

I have a young tripod cat who has overgroomed his stomach/hips to the point that he’s now bald. After ruling many things out, the vet suggested maybe he has some arthritis because he’s missing a back leg. After 3 weeks his hair hasn’t started to grow back yet, but he is noticeably much more active. He’s sprinting up and down stairs, jumping up and down from my couch and coffee table, and all around more playful. The jury is still out if this will cause him to completely stop the overgrooming, but so far I’m thrilled with how much more active and comfortable he is.

Noticeable difference

My cat stopped jumping up onto surfaces she always has and went through a time when she wouldn't even jump up onto the couch. After 5-6 weeks of Dasuquin mixed daily

My cat was walking hunched in the back, she said osteoarthritis in hips. Recommended this specific brand. Said these taste good to cats, to open the capsules and mix in food. My cat likes it mixed in his food. He is a big cat, so gets 2 a day, one with each meal. No side effects like barfing or diarrhea. I am hoping hoping hoping it helps to relieve his pain. Vet said give it 4 weeks. It's only been 10 days but he is less hunched up.

I started giving my boy this joint supplement when he was 12 and he took it until he passed at 16 almost 17. It made a HUGE difference in his ability to move and continue to be active even being elderly. He was still able to walk run jump and even go up and down stairs. I highly recommend!

My 14 year old kitty has arthritis, and she receives monthly Solensia. But sometimes between the shots, she seems a bit stiff. I have noticed a huge difference after adding Dasuquin. We sell the chewable for dogs at the clinic where I work, but not for cats. I’m able to put this over her food and she doesn’t care. She either doesn’t taste it or it tastes good to her. And after I started giving it to her, she’s a bit more agile inbetween Solensia. I recommend this a lot
