Learn More About Okocat From Our Team of Experts

A Healthier Clean Cat Litter

Leave old-school clay and chemicals in the dust. Made from sustainably sourced, responsibly rescued wood fiber, high-performing Okocat natural litter is relentless at controlling odor, with a fresh natural scent reminiscent of the great outdoors.

Wood Works Naturally

The precision-cut, clean wood fiber absorbs liquid on contact. This stops enzymes from bonding with liquid and waste to prevent ammonia and odor before they even begin. No harmful chemical binders, either—just solid clumps for easy scooping.

No Dirty Clay Dust Here

Wherever your cat roams, litter tracked by paws inevitably follows. Free of artificial fragrance, harmful chemicals, and toxic dyes, Okocat natural cat litter lets you keep clay dust out of your home and off floors, counters, and furniture.

Use Less. Spend Less. Scatter Less.

With regular scooping, Okocat litters can last up to 7 weeks for one cat. Plus, the Low Tracking variety is designed to stay in the litter box, preserving it for use while keeping your home tidy. It’s litter that lasts longer—in more ways than one.

About Okocat

Questions & Answers

41 Customer Questions

Did Okocat recently change their formula? I'm used to it looking like tan color, but the last box I ordered, the litter was an orange color and was slightly smaller in texture.

Answer by ChewyDec 31, 2019
Okocat has been produced in Germany in the past, however recently they have built a domestic cat litter manufacturing plant at their Jesup, Georgia facility to produce the same litter. With the species of wood raw material being different in Germany versus Georgia, there are minor variabilities in color, scent, and appearance. The product specifications and performance attributes remain the same. Their domestic litter is made from local sustainably sourced Georgia softwoods – which include spruce, pine, and fir.

Is this septic safe ?

Answer by ChewyFeb 15, 2023
Okocat natural wood kitty litters are flushable and have been certified by SGS in accordance with ANSI standards (ASME A112.19.6. (JRS)) However, local limitations should be considered and flushing is not recommended if on a septic system. As well, the state of California has a referendum against flushing cat litter for protection of the sea lion population, since cat feces can harm sea lions.

Is there less dust?

Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2019
This wood-based litters produces little to no airborne dust.

Is this litter low tracking?

Answer by ChewyJan 06, 2021
This Original Premium Wood Clumping litter is not considered low tracking, however the Okocat Mini Pellets Unscented Clumping Wood Cat Litter is a great alternative option. The Mini Pellets Unscented Clumping Wood litter is made from soft, mini-pellets that are easy on paws, and less likely to stick to your cat's fur or track through the house.

As far as I can tell, our cats do not eat this litter, which is important!! It absorbs pee well, and sticks to poop so it can dry out, and the cats don't get their feet dirty. It does smell a little bit like a barn, but it's important that my cats don't eat it. One cat had a blockage from eating clumping clay litter. She could have died. She and the kitten started to eat Tofu litter, so I had to get rid of that. The clumping crystals were good, but I worry that they will harm my kitties. So I am sticking with OKOCAT unless I find something better. I wish the kitties would use the human toilet.

Absolutely No Oder Control

I bought this bc my cat is allergic to sodium bentonite. It helped with his allergies but tracked everywhere in the house. Worse than regular clay litter and bc it's so big it is really noticeable. Scooping is difficult bc the pellets are so big. It clumps ok. But even with regular scooping it's really terrible on odor control. After a the first few days the house just started to smell like urine soaked sawdust. Which, when I emptied the litter boxes that's what had collected in the bottom. Just unscoopable urine soaked sawdust. I switched over to Arm & Hammer hard ball litter and I like it much better. So much better in all these categories than this one.

Ordered 2 of the 18lb bags along with some other items and one bag was ripped right in the middle and litter spilled out all over everything. This could’ve been prevented by placing some padding or packing paper between the litter and other items. As for the litter itself, I love Okocat (the original version) and my cat does fine with it. Yes there’s some tracking but it’s way less than clay. Some bags come with more dust as well but in general, the litter is great and I love that I can recycle the paper bag afterwards.

This is the one to add to the cart!

There is absolutely no odor at all in the room where the litter pan sits. I could not be happier and all my Cat Mom friends will be hearing about this. It is fast and easy to clean, I don't need to where a mask, and if I miss a day (yes, sometimes), it's okay! I had used clumping microocrystal litter, which was the best so far, but I started having trouble finding it. Now I'm glad I couldn't.

INSANE DUST - NOT SAFE

There’s no way this litter is safe for pets let alone humans to be scooping. This is by FAR the dustiest litter I have EVER used I have no idea how this is getting good reviews. My vet told me to switch from clumping clay litter to something that isn’t so dusty so I stumbled across this but this is just awful. One scoop and I feel like I have sawdust in my nose and lungs. I would NEVER recommend this litter. It smells of sawdust as well and my cat refused to use it immediately, which he’s never done before.

Great Clumping, HORRIBLE DUST!

I have a kitty with asthma and someone recommended OkoCat as we try to do natural. We used to use the pink bag, super soft, and it was a bit dusty, not horrible

I have a kitty with asthma and someone recommended OkoCat as we try to do natural. We used to use the pink bag, super soft, and it was a bit dusty, not horrible but enough where I wanted to change it. I switched to this one thinking it would be less dust, NOPE! It is even more dust than the soft bag. Going to give the pellets a shot to see if the dust is more manageable, but would rule this one out if you have a sensitive kitty like mine. Hope this helps someone out there!

Been using this litter for a few years, original unscented, 4 cats, 6 boxes, clumping is great, keep them clean and rarely have to purge and start with all new litter, I just add as needed, keep it deep, love there’s no perfume clay litter smell, does it track?, it sure does, even with litter trapping mats, is it dusty?, it is, but no worse than clay litter, does it seem expensive?, compared to others it does, but it’s really not because of rarely having to purge.

Wow!

I have 3 cats that all use the same litter box. I recently started using this litter 2 months ago. This is GOAT of all the countless litter out there. I got so busy with work school I didn't clean the litter box for a whole week! Gross I know. Usually it smells of urine pretty bad, but oh my God it did not smell at all. Even as I open a little box I still didn't spell anything. And even as I begin to scoop the litter is still did not smell. And by now the litter had turn from clumps to soft mushy dusty. And it still didn't smell. Usually with most litters if I forget to change it that long my eyes would be burning from the power of the urine smell. But not with this litter. I was in complete shock. 10/10 litter. No smell. No fine powdery dust. Fair prices. Cats liked it. Easy to scoop and clean. The cats fling it everywhere but that's normal with all litters I have used.

My Cat is manly an outdoor Cat, but sometimes on a rainy day or a very cold day she will choose to stay in and use her litter box. This litter is so very pleasant to work with. There is virtually no odder and she never tracks it out of the box. Scooping is a breeze. Love it!!

Great litter, a lot of tracking

Got this as a replacement for Rufus and Coco which is no longer available in the US. Really a solid litter and unlike anything I’ve tried. It’s not wooden pellets

Got this as a replacement for Rufus and Coco which is no longer available in the US. Really a solid litter and unlike anything I’ve tried. It’s not wooden pellets but more like very thin wood shavings (imagine like what you put in a hamster box or something). Pros Price Odor control Clumping (really terrific actually because of the texture) Cons Tracks really bad. The one upside is that because they are littl wood (?) shavings, they vacuum easy and don’t breakdown leading to dust. So that’s great. Just annoying to see it around but vacuuming twice a day does the trick.
