About Taste of the Wild Cat Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be cheetahs or lions, but today's domestic cats share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium fish and meats like smoke-flavored salmon, trout, ocean fish, roasted venison and chicken. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pet feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a cat's GI tract. The proprietary Viables probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your cat gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your kitty will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your little wildcat just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from smoke-flavored salmon or ocean fish, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Where is this food made?
Answer by ChewyJul 19, 2018
Taste of the Wild has five manufacturing facilities, all located in the United States: two in California, one in Missouri, one in South Carolina and one in Arkansas.

Why do you use chicken meal as your primary ingredient rather than the venison/salmon combination of real meat that makes up the title of the food? Can you explain exactly what chicken meal is? What is the source of your chicken?
Answer by ChewySep 18, 2017
Chicken meal is a dry, concentrated protein source while salmon and venison is a wet, lower protein ingredient. Using chicken meal as the first ingredient helps meet the guaranteed level of protein in the finished product. Roasted venison and smoked salmon are included in the name of the formula as it highlights some of the more unique protein sources and flavors in the food. The chicken meal ingredient is locally sourced from Arkansas and Georgia.

Video states food is made in USA, are all ingredients sourced here as well? Some foods state made in USA but with imported ingredients and we all know what that means.
Answer by ChewyMar 03, 2018
Taste of the Wild has five manufacturing facilities, all located in the United States: two in California, one in Missouri, one in South Carolina and one in Arkansas. Taste of the Wild uses some ingredients that are not USA sourced. The lamb from New Zealand, lamb meal and venison from Australia, duck meal from France, potato protein from Germany and dried chicory root from Belgium. There are ingredients that are critical to the formulations (i.e. folic acid and taurine) that can only be sourced out of China.

Is the fish meal processed with ethoxyquin?
Answer by ChewyJun 13, 2022
Taste of the Wild sources all protein meals (chicken meal, fish meal, etc) from vendors that do not use ethoxyquin. Only natural preservatives are used in their manufacturing process to preserve the foods.

Caused diarrhea

I purchased because vet recommended novel protein diet. My cat is on meds for diabetes and hyperthyroidism, buy was still losing some fur so wanted to try venison diet. This food caused chronic diarrhea in my cat (and I switched foods over gradually)...he's never been prone to GI upset before, so I felt terrible for him. The poop also smelled like absolute death. I would be careful with this diet for senior pets. I now have him on prescription Biome food, and that has fixed the damage that this food caused.

Jackson Galaxy says...

I have been feeding my cats a multi stages food for about 2 1/2 year because we got a new kitten. This is what I was feeding before we got her. My cats have always loved this food. and I trust it. I am going to start trying the other flavors here and there because I heard the whole keeping them on one diet has not done our pets any good. they need variety. they do it in the wild right? They have been actually happier for it. And no digestive issues. Now if you have a pet who does have digestive issue's that is a different story. Talk to your vet please. But personally I have had 2 cats who had pancreatitis and had to put them on a "novel" diet. meaning they had to eat a food they were not used too. no Chicken, or fish. Well that is in most cat food. So now until there is an issue (hopefully not) we are going to try a different meat combo every few months. And this is the brand I have trusted for years. Lots of variety to choose from too!

my cats love it!!

My cats actually love it. I saw all the positive reviews and took a chance on a 5 lb bag. I wasn’t sure by the smell. Kiko was very excited. I think my cats like things that smell “smoked” or “grilled”. Cats can be weird so hopefully they will continue to love it.

My baby loves it

This is such a bargain and a great product. The food has no foul odor like other mainstream unhealthy brands, is a great size for my automatic feeder and Momo loves it. What more do I need. Well now I need a slow feeder tool because she just sucks these down like its air.

Large bag not as fresh?

So, I initially purchased the 5-lb bag and my cats acted like it was crack! So, I bought the next size up and they barely touch it. What gives?? Going to try the small bag again. We shall see.

amazing cat food!!

We adopted a cat ( my husband and I) so we bought her a popular brand and she ate 2-3 times a day, I started to see her gain weight in just one month with that brand, and I said no, she will get sick if she continues like this. I found this brand that is more protein than flour or carbohydrates and the reviews are very good, so I said I'm going to try this. And I’m very happy for that . At first time my cat didn't like it very much, this has a strong smell and she started to eat very little. So She lost weight (which is fine for me) she only eat once a day and I started to worry for her , I asked my vet friend and she said she’s very well, she is energetic and happy, her fur is very nice. so I started to look at her and it's true, her fur is already shiny and it falls much less than when we adopted her!! So I recommend it 100% and I will continue buying it.

It's All Good

Along with canned food, my cats have eaten Taste of the Wild dry food for years. Every so often I change it for variety and this time I chose the venison and salmon. It doesn't matter; they like all the flavors.

good brand but not this variety

Love this brand but finally realized every time our cats eat this flavor with the fish it makes them barf a lot. Switching back to non fish variety in the hopes this will stop. We’re tired of cleaning the carpet!
