It is not dust free.
Answer by ChewyAug 29, 2019
Naturally Fresh is virtually dust-free. That means you can breathe easier in your home, and this litter is safe for pets or owners with respiratory problems.

is this litter grain like, pellets, or neither? what makes it low-tracking like pellets but still clumping?
Answer by ChewyOct 06, 2018
The litter is more of a larger grain consistency and is low tracking because it doesn't stick to your cat's paws.

Is this litter unscented ?
Answer by ChewyMar 21, 2019
This litter is unscented.

Can cats develop allergies to this litter?
Answer by ChewyOct 16, 2018
Cats having an allergic reaction to litter can happen, but it's most likely cause of the excessive dust, or added fragrance. This litter features virtually dust-free and is unscented.

Not for us

Normally I use the grass litter available through Chewy and have been very happy with the product. But with all the supply chain concerns, I wanted to see if there was an alternative out there which could be substituted should my favorite litter not be available. This walnut litter looked promising. Some things we didn't like right away is how difficult it is to see the clumped litter and other deposits as the litter is dark. Both my husband and I are over 50 and our eyes need all the help they can get. So, we just turned a light on when cleaning the litter boxes. What was a dealbreaker was the amount of dust this product created. I was surprised as it is a slightly heavier litter than the grass litter, but the finer particles made a plume of dust when we added more to the litter boxes where as our other litter does not create dust. The product clumps and it is a great use of something (walnut hulls) that would be otherwise thrown away, so I love the idea and concept. This just isn't a product we will want to use in the future.

Best mixed with other litter

I wish I could give this a two thumbs up, because I want to support all non-clay clumping litters. My issue may just be me, because I seem to have an issue with dark colored litters ... I feel like it's harder to find the clumps and turds, and I have to comb thru the entire extra large litter box to be sure I've gotten everything. So because I want to support this litter too, I've taken to mixing it with other light colored litters so that I can easily find the lumps and clumps. I'm mixing it with the SWheat litter, and that is working well.

The only logical cat litter

This is literally the best cat litter in the world, and no they are not paying me to say this lol. This is probably my favorite pet product ever created because it actually works like it says, and the price is great for what it does. Seriously, this saves us so much money. We have two cats, and granted we clean their litter every day but this litter does a remarkable job of covering up their smell in the meantime. It can be a little dusty but no more so than any other litter that’s just part of having a cat. The best thing about this litter is it lasts forever. One of these $20 bags last us a couple months, with two cats, and like I said we clean our litter every day. Also, it’s good for the environment. Biodegradable and totally healthy. Using any other litter… Cough cough…clay litter. is a bad choice when there is a product like this around. My partner and I wish we found this sooner and we will be using it forever, because we will always have cats lol. Customers for life

FINICKY CATS LOVED IT

After years of using clay-type litter, I decided to try something different and miracle of miracles, my 2 very fussy felines loved the ground walnut shells! The shell grinds are fine and do give a small amount of dust which I assume is better for the environment of my basement than the clay dust. The litter clumps well and is easier to sift through and seems to last longer than the old stuff.

Personally, better than clay

I have been trying to switch my senior kitties away from clay litter off and on for a while. Success! Both of my cats find the texture acceptable. As others have mentioned, it's not dust free. It seems to cloud up a bit when I clean the litter boxes. Even with that I just enjoy that this actually works and clumps. The clumps are usually not super, super hard, which is fine with me. It's the odor that pleases me the most. The walnut seems to cut down on the litter box smells (I clean daily, but still) so much better than clay litters I've used. I really enjoy it and I'm glad my kitties do to.

Great concept, poor execution

Was looking for a hypoallergenic cat litter for my two cats so I figured I'd give this a shot but let me tell you...do NOT order this. While I will admit it has a pleasant scent to it and does its job clumping, the rest it fails. It is the MOST DUSTY litter I've ever used. Every time I scoop from it I sneeze multiple times, and I have to blow my nose after and it's brown from the amount of dust it kicks up. Even the cats sneeze every time they use it. And speaking of the cats using it? If you have a white cat, you'll be able to tell they just came from the litter box. Absolutely COVERED in the brown dust after using their litter box. So not only is the dust up your nose, it's on your cats fur, and now ALL OVER your house. I'll use the rest of what I have, but definitely will not be ordering this brand again.

Green Alternative

I honestly made an accidental switch to this a couple months ago when the pet store was out of clay, but I love the difference in my litterboxes. No more tracking (despite my Tom's best efforts and his history of getting clay / paper / pellets quite literally everywhere), the clumping is faster than clay, and the scent and dust are much more tolerable for being natural walnut. Also no more clay claws on either cat! If you have messy cats or you can't find a scent you can stand in other litter you should definitely try this out!

This litter is like dirt

We wanted a natural, clumping litter for our newly adopted girls & thought we’d try this one. I should’ve just stuck to paper & pine pellets like the shelter recommended. This one clumps but doesn’t hold together very well when you’re actually scooping. It’s also very dusty. It does a good job controlling odors until you start digging around. We have 2 cats & 2 litter boxes & clean TWICE a day & I have to wear an N95 when I’m cleaning because the amount of dust & odors. We are definitely switching to something else.

Not the one.

Pros: Last longer, all natural, the cats adapted to it quickly. Cons: Dusty, tracks and because it’s dark— it is super messy. Doesn’t seem to clump as well. The deal breaker was how messy this litter is. I am still searching for a clay substitute. This is not it.

Really wanted to love it

I really wanted to love this litter because I hate the clay litter and wanted something that would eventually break down, but alas, it was disappointing. Some clumps held together but many fall apart as I scoop, making the clean litter dirty fast. It also is fairly dusty and the dust is dark brown so it can stain if it gets damp and it does track as much as clay. I ended up trying a corn cob litter and it's not perfect, but much better.
