About Taste of the Wild Dog Food

The Diet Nature Intended

They might not be wolves or coyotes, but today's domestic dogs share the same ancestral cravings. To satisfy these instinctual appetites, Taste of the Wild wet and dry formulas are made with real, roasted meat plus fruits, vegetables and legumes that are chosen for their specific health benefits.

Energy That Lasts

Taste of the Wild is made with premium meats like wild boar; buffalo; smoked salmon and turkey; and roasted bison, lamb, quail, venison and duck. Every formula is grain-free and provides lasting energy with complex carbs from sweet potatoes and legumes. These highly digestible proteins and fiber-rich carbohydrates will keep your pup feeling full and energized throughout the day.

Immune System Support

Since 70% of your pet's immune system is found in the gut, it makes sense to choose a food that's good for the digestive tract. Taste of the Wild includes prebiotics and species-specific probiotics with bacteria that's naturally found in a dog's GI tract. The proprietary K9 Strain probiotics are added after the kibble is cooked so your dog gets guaranteed live, active cultures that support healthy digestion.

Maximizing Nutrient Absorption

To help your pet's body absorb all of the beneficial minerals in her food, Taste of the Wild recipes have chelated minerals. That means they can easily attach to proteins for absorption during digestion. So your canine pal will enjoy the full value of every carefully selected mineral that these foods have to offer.

Perfectly Balanced Omegas

Taste of the Wild gives your pup just the right dose of omega fatty acids in every bite. Marine-sourced omega-3 comes from salmon oil, smoked salmon or ocean fish meal, or a combination of these ingredients. Omega-6 from plant sources balance out the omega-3s, and they work together to help maintain your pet's skin and coat health and to support overall wellness.

Ingredients for Better Health

The powerful superfood trio of blueberries, raspberries and tomatoes can be found in every delicious recipe, along with their immune-boosting properties.

TOMATOES AND TOMATO POMACE: Help support overall health by providing vitamin C, soluble fiber and rich in concentrated lycopene, a premier antioxidant.

BLUEBERRIES: Antioxidant-rich superfood that's full of flavor and loaded with vitamins C and E, healthy carbs, dietary fiber and manganese.

RASPBERRIES: Delicious berries packed with potassium, manganese, copper, iron and magnesium, and they also provide fiber and antioxidants.

Questions & Answers

10 Customer Questions

Does this food contain any chicken ingredients?
Answer by ChewyApr 11, 2022
This recipe does not contain any poultry ingredients.

What is the natural flavor in this product?
Answer by ChewyMay 01, 2022
Natural flavoring is an ingredient added for enhanced palatability and an extra-tasty meaty flavor in your pet's food. It's made from hydrolyzed chicken, which means that the protein is broken down into small particles that are less likely to be recognized by the immune system in a pet with food allergies.

What is the ash content?
Answer by ChewyMar 10, 2022
On an as fed basis the ash content is 7.7%. On a dry matter basis the ash is 2.1 grams/100kcal.

May I please have the magnesium, phosphorus and calcium percentage on a dry matter basis - of this food?
Answer by ChewyJan 19, 2021
This recipe contains 0.13% Magnesium (0.14% dry matter), 1.30% Phosphorus (1.42% dry matter), and 1.80% Calcium (1.97% dry matter) all on an as fed basis.

Works for my Cat's Digestive Issues

My cat has some undiagnosed digestive issue that I can't afford to get tested right now. Through my own trials and errors according to her BMs, I have ruled out chicken based foods. Needing other options I tried this one since it's main meat source is beef. I know this contains chicken fat, but for almost a year now on this food, that has been minimal enough to not bother my cat's stomach. This is our go to for now!

Now has chicken

My cat is allergic to chicken, and finding food without any chicken has been a challenge. He was doing well on this food for over a year and loves the taste, so I was shocked and disappointed to see that they've now added chicken fat to the recipe! Chicken is one of the most common allergens for cats, so why would you add it to a recipe that's most likely being chosen specifically because it doesn't have chicken? And not so much as an alert on the label that the recipe has been changed. I'm just lucky I glanced at the reviews here before I bought another bag.

Chewy is the best in every way!!!!!!

This was a smaller order. I put in huge orders when I order for outdoor cats. Small or big they are always quick and affordable. They have the best prices it's like they give you a discount for delivering it to your door LOL. Last time the box went to a different building that sat there for a few days. I let chewy know and said up and it shows up let's give it another day and they sent the order anyway. They knew I was close to running out and wasn't feeling well to go to the store to get by. As expected somebody's mentioned about sitting outside for a few days and it was ours. I called chewy right away they said it's already on the way just receive it donated if you don't need it. With a dozen cats outside I can always use extra food thank you chewy. And thank you for your compassion and ordering anyway even though I said to give it a day. Their customer service genuinely cares about their people. They wanted to make sure I didn't have to go out while under the weather. They were also so very generous to not stop the shipment even though it had not arrived yet. I used to order occasionally from another place. I haven't done that in a couple years at least probably three because chewy is so awesome and take such good care of their customers we really genuinely care about their customers and their furry friends.

no longer allergen friendly

I bought this brand specifically because my cat is allergic to chicken. The formula has been changed to add chicken fat. I didn’t notice until he chewed himself raw. It is soooo hard to find chicken free cat food even though it is the most common food allergen for cats. Please bring back the original formula without chicken.

Now contains chicken fat and salmon oil

This was one of only three dry kibble cat foods that my poultry and fish sensitive cats could eat. This was the most often in stock and most reasonably priced option. I was very disappointed to find out it was changed to include chicken fat and salmon oil. This is a great cat kibble, highly palatable for and well liked by all of my cats, but unfortunately not a recipe I can use any longer. I have a group of three siblings that have issues with poultry and fish. One of them is so sensitively and reactive that she practically scratches herself down to the bone after eating even the smallest amount of either. I would come back to this food if a poultry and fish free option were put back on the market.

You changed the formula

And I didn't notice you changed the formula, although I should have. My allergy sensitive cat itched herself raw and I had to cut this out of her diet a short while ago - I was confused as to this sudden breakout. The previous formula would have gotten 5 stars. There's such a small margin of foods out there without chicken fat or salmon oil. This is no longer one of them. For anyone looking for replacements - I use freely rabbit protein.

Formula has Changed!!

This is the only food my Mia has been able to eat for awhile. She can't have chicken, it makes her very ill. I had this on autoship and didn't realize the formula had changed. A few days ago I opened the bag I got last and she has been throwing up after eating, I could not figure out what was going on because this is our "safe food" then I saw that they have changed from sunflower oil to chicken fat!!

Now contains chicken fat

They changed the recipe recently and it now contains chicken fat. We previously bought this food bc it was limited ingredient and our cat can’t eat chicken. Poor girl has an upset tummy now. Quite the hassle to last minute having to find a new food to transition our sensitive tummy cat to!
