Create a nutty-tasting and nutritious hay blend for your small pet with Oxbow Oat Hay Small Animal Food. Some small pets like Guinea Pigs, rabbits and chinchillas, need hay to maintain healthy digestion. In fact, hay should make up 75 percent of their diet. Along with digestion, hay keeps teeth trim and promotes natural foraging and mental stimulation. Oxbow Oat Hay Small Animal Food is high in fiber, low in protein and full of flavor, making it ideal for adult small pets. Feed unlimited amounts as an alternative to timothy, orchard and organic meadow hay.

Key Benefits
  • Oat Hay is companion forage that is similar in nutritional analysis to the western timothy. Your animals will love the immature oat grain that is contained in the seed head and will benefit greatly from the fiber in the leaf and stem.
  • Oat Hay is a good source of fiber and also gives variety to your animal's diet. This product also makes a good bedding alternative to wheat straw.
  • The stage of maturity at harvest determines the development of the seed head. If the hay is harvested immaturely, at the early bloom stage, the actual oat kernel is not mature. The seed heads consist primarily of oat husks, which are rich in fiber.
  • Hay is absolutely vital to the health of small herbivores. It provides not only nutrition, but environmental enrichment that mimics the animal's natural habitat.
  • Provides a long-strand fiber source that is needed to improve the digestive and intestinal functions by stimulating the digestive system. When animals are fed free-choice hay, it promotes their natural chewing behavior, which helps prevent molar spurs and other dental problems that are so common in these small herbivores.

  • Benny Goes Bonkers....

    By on

My Benny who is a boar guinea pig, and Lucy, a sow guinea pig, both LOVE the Oxbow products. We use their Oxbow adult guinea pig pellets, Orchard Grass, Oat Hay, and also their Vitamin C chewy biscuits ;-) We also give them probiotics to assist in good digestion, and that is it! No veggies, too much sugar! We have a specialist Exotics Veterinarian who told us this was the best diet for them. Both happy and very healthy at age 2 yrs, each ;-) Thank you Oxbow!

  • Piggies need hay, not straw!

    By on

Normally I have no issue with any of the Oxbox Hay but for some reason every time I order the Oat Hay, it comes to me very yellow/brown and straw like. My piggies will not eat it and I end up having to go out and buy a different type (usually the Botanical or Orchard Grass). I would NOT recommend this hay.

  • Mediocre Hay to be honest

    By on

I've been a pet parent for quite sometime. I was also quite surprise that this hay was not that great. My Holland rabbit is not a picky guy either. The shipping is right on time! But the down fall about this paticular hay is that it came really dry and the quality was almost like it was old. I'm use to feeding my pet rich green hay. Was not pleased with the quality and neither was my pet. But all the other Oxbow hay is a plus!

  • Puddin' loved her oat hay!!!

    By on

My rabbit Puddin' loves her oat hay. I only buy oxbow brand foods for her. I have not had an issue with this brand yet. Id recommend because seems to be a good brand of food. Oat hay is suggested as part of a rabbits hay diet along with timothy and orchard hays. I purchase this oat hay and the oxbow timothy and orchard mixture hay and i do a 2 (timothy/orchard hay) to 1 (oat hay) ratio when feeding Puddin', and like i said she lives it.

I got a small bag of this to mix in with my bunny's Timothy hay. I had read that rabbits like variety so I thought I'd try something new for her. She absolutely loves it!

  • Pigs love it

    By on

I had to buy cat food and was only a few dollars away from free shipping, so I thought getting this or another type of hay would be good enrichment for my guinea pigs. I was slightly nervous that they wouldn't like it since most of the reviews were with bunnies, but my piggies greatly enjoy this oat hay and I will keep trying different types for their enrichment

  • Should have gotten more.

    By on

Next time I'll buy a bigger bag. :-) My 7 guinea pigs love it. It adds variety to their hay and grass, and likely other nutrients, too. I'm already out! If I have a complaint, it's that the little oat seed fall to the bottom... no big deal.

  • My bunnies LOVE this hay!!!

    By on

This oat hay is my bunnies’ favorite treat! They go nuts every time I feed this to them. They even break into the bag, when I leave them unattended. My only “complaint” is that it doesn’t come in a bigger bag.
