how loud is it?

The quiet motor produces very little vibration and only 60dB of sound.

Would this product work for XL dogs? I have a St. Bernard with large thick nails.

Well, that went better than expected

I tried the grinder on Merc, who doesn't like having his paws messed with. He went stiff and tried to pull his foot away at first, but after a couple of claws he seemed to realize it was no big deal and relaxed. By the time I'd done all for paws he was lying back on me and enjoying the cuddle. I found it a little awkward at first, figuring out the right angle to hold the grinder at, but it wasn't all that difficult, and the motor is very quiet. It did a good job blunting the claws, even the thickly overgrown ones (Merc's a senior feline).

The manual clippers worked great, until they literally snapped on me when trimming my dogs nails, and the automatic device didn’t work well at all on my dogs nails
